I have touchscreen CarPlay in my G12 M760i and miss it in the i8. I know the i8 will never have touchscreen CarPlay, that is why I am asking how the compromise is for the retrofit kits.

Plus, has anyone actually retrofitted stock BMW CarPlay into an i8?

I have carplay but it is not stock it's aftermarket but you cant tell. I bought it on alibaba $200

1]who installed it? you or a shop? I have seen plenty of videos. Some involve removing the A-pillar cover on the passenger side, to run wires for the BT mic in the ceiling. Did that need to be done?

2] how do you like it? How often does it fail to see apps, do stuff, require a re-connect while trying to drive? Even stock CarPlay in my 2018 Seven, fails daily, especially on the Waze app.

And how many steps do you need to go thru every time you get into the car, to get it to start up?

Even stock BT phone for IPhone requires at least three clicks. Media, External device, then-- select your phone.
