MY23 i4 $7,500 US federal tax credit
I just checked the irs.gov website for list of vehicles that qualify for the federal tax credit and the MY23 I4 isn't there. My guess is this is a delay but I don't want to assume.
Anyone knows if MY23 still qualifies or it reached the threshold? Sources: https://www.irs.gov/businesses/irc-3...vehicle-credit https://www.fueleconomy.gov/feg/taxevb.shtml |

The reason I'm wondering is, the MY22 I4's were added on the website in February a month before they were first sold in the US. |

BMW is not even close to reaching the tax credit halving.

I wouldn't worry. There is no way they've exceeded their threshold for sales in the last year. BMW's own site hasn't been updated for 2023 i4s. Also a quick skim of the IRS listing doesn't show any MY23s for any make.

according to this BMW only had 63k left until 200k and that number was from back in Dec 2021. But I still think most 2023 MY are safe.

https://www.irs.gov/businesses/irc-3...uarterly-sales Looking at BMW North America Sales data, it is difficult to ascertain how many eligible vehicles were sold between 1/1/2022 and 6/30/2022 as the Plug-In Hybrid variants of X5, 3er and 5er as well as the i4 are lumped into the main series vehicle counts There were definitively 1,442 BEVs to reduce the tax credit eligible vehicles for 2022 to atleast 62,879 left not counting the above mixed units. https://www.press.bmwgroup.com/usa/a...98EN_US/563823 |

BMW had 24k qualifying sales in 2021. If they double that in 2022 with the introduction of the i4 and iX and growing demand for PHEVs, we'll enter 2023 with only 16k deliveries available for the full credit. If they hit those 16k before March 30, 2021, the credit gets halved on July 1, 2023. If they don't hit it until the end of June, credit is halved starting in October. I would say we're far from panic stage yet for those hoping to receive the full tax credit on a recently ordered vehicle that won't arrive until sometime next year, but I'm also not fully confident the vehicles will come in time to get the full tax credit either. We'll know more as the quarterly sales data rolls in. |
