Protestors : "We have a guillotine!!!"

Bezos : "I have a small army of armed security with guns. Da fuq you gonna do with that guillotine?"

As others have said though it's all just paper wealth, it's not like he could spend probably even 1/10th of it tomorrow if he wanted to. It's like having a container ship vs a wakeboard boat - sure, it can carry hundreds or thousands of people instead of just 10-15, but good luck actually turning it in a different direction. Momentum's a bitch.

In the early Amazon days before they went live, my company sent me to Amazon to work with them on book database feed. They tried to poach me but I just couldn't do it (but I did buy lots of early stock since they really seemed to have "something" ) )

Jeff was in the office next door to me and has a really distinctive and VERY goofy laugh. The kind that drove me insane when I was trying to concentrate, but also made me laugh since it was so goofy.

I can hear that goofy laugh inside my head... laughing all the way to the bank! Good for him, he was a really good guy (even that laugh)

I agree it's ridiculous, but they're following American corporate tax law. Can't blame them for taking advantage of the loopholes. I'm sure we all would too if given the opportunity. Don't get mad at the player, get mad at the person who made the game.

He owns 11% of Amazon (it's not his company) and it isn't his choice as the other 89% of ownership (could be anyone in the world), likely don't agree with giving money not owed to the U.S. government to them as a charity.

They made the rules and holes, they lobby or bribe lawmakers and we can't so we have no holes, get to pay taxes, and they don't.

Very true. But technically we voted them in whoever they are. Both political parties are complicit here I think. Although if I remember correctly, I think Trump was really pissed off at Amazon for this.

Trump shouldn't be pissed at Amazon as he did the same thing. If you have losses you can carry them forward. I don't blame Amazon for taking advantage of whatever is available to them in the tax code.

Quote:
The forms show that in 1995, Trump claimed a business loss of nearly $916 million. Much of that likely resulted from Trump's business losses in previous years, including money-losing casinos in Atlantic City and the Trump Shuttle airline.

At the time, the tax code allowed such losses to be "carried forward" up to 15 years, offsetting income and reducing or even eliminating tax liability and carried backward on income up to 3 years prior. (The allowance has since been changed to carry forward 20 years and carry back 2 years.) The code is particularly flexible when it comes to real estate professionals like Trump.

Just to put into perspective also, if you gonna count 1 billion $ per 1$ bill you will need 32 YEARS.
Also for one million you only need 11 days

He deserves his on paper wealth and his success as he started it from nothing so no one can hold it against him.

But the system is broken in terms of tax and it needs to change they can't keep just taxing the easy targets and then borrowing the short fall, governments (all of them) need to move to a more sustainable structure.

I like how people have no understanding of taxes nor can differentiate b/w income, corporate and capital gain ones, yet have strong opinions, and vote on them.

Hilarious ain't it?

Taking advantage of corp tax laws, anyone else would too. I don't see it as unfair, I only can see from that that the laws need to change to not allow such loopholes.

Comparing his corp taxes to your personal taxes? How's that make sense lol?

Systems broken and has loopholes. Don't blame him for taking advantage of it, you and I would as well.

I feel like a lot of people fail to recognize the amount of value someone like Jeff Bezos adds to the world. Think about the millions of jobs he has created, mom and pop wholesalers selling product, advertising, transportation jobs, Energy, etc.. it's not like he's not investing it back into the company.

I’m sure there’s some stupid stuff they take advantage of, but deductions for massive investments and loss carry-forwards aren’t even loopholes.
