Charging Station at Home

After doing some research, I think I am going to get the Juicebox 40 Pro for my upcoming 2018 i3 BEV.

I need the NEA 14-50P installed in my garage, and my fuse box is downstairs. Its about 25 feet away through a half finished basement and up to the garage. I was quoted $942 for the install, which to me seems high. This is just to set up the plug, I will purchase and mount the Juicebox myself.

Any thoughts on install cost or feelings on the Juicebox?

I just bought the Clipper Creek CLA50 and had the electricians out for a bid to install the 50 A circuit and plug.

Under a $1000 isnt that bad. Figure the wire is going to cost about $150, the breaker $50, misc other supplies.. $100/hr for a electrician and it will maybe take him 4+ hrs.

I paid $265 to have my Chargepoint installed. It was right on the other side of the electrical panel though so it only took him about an hour. Cost included the plug, box and his time. He was cheapest by far than the other 3 quotes I got. For a run that's 25 feet away and through some unfinished sections of the house, I'd think under $1,000 seems like it's going to be about right.

I have a friend of a friend coming tomorrow to do it for $250. I am glad I didn't jump on the other two offers.

Garage List
Mine cost $480 which included materials. Electrician had to make space on service panel using tandem breakers. Then run the wire 20 feet or so to the garage. Who knew conduits and outlets were so expensive

End of day seemed in line with average prices (typical installs run about $1000 all-in, half labor and half charger).

Here in Houston I was quoted $1250 to install a 14-30 receptacle and run about 20' of wire from the breaker box (in the garage). Crazy.
Spent $125 at Lowes on 30' of 8-3 wire, 30A breaker, NEMA 13-30 receptacle and double gang box and doing it myself.

My Clipper Creek unit is fully functional now. What a difference having the quick charge capability makes.

Ended up installing a 30amp Siemens unit. Does the job well, no complaints there. DIY installation took a while due to drilling the wall for 220 then routing it across the garage and so on, but it sure beats paying some random electrician of questionable skill.

Coming from Europe, I was whether the above chargers (30 amp, 40 amp) are single phase configurations? I recently had a BMW WallBox charger installed. It has three phases, but each (230V) phase is limited to 16 amps as the total installation in the house should not exceed 25 amps per phase. I also had a MODBUS meter installed, so the charger reduces power when other large devices (electric stove, oven) are turned on, the the total would exceed 25 amps.

Which I have learned takes forever to charge the i3 since my Turbo Cord is out of commission waiting for a new adapter.

My Tesla adapter arrived yesterday - looking forward to finding a wall charge to try it out.

When we were building our house last year we had two 220s installed in the garage. Didn’t think I’d be going electric so soon. Electrician didn’t have to much except install the plug (I got a Chargepoint EVSE) and mount the unit to the wall. Total install was @ $175.
