Anyone ever go to F1 in Montreal ? Got tickets as gift

Anyone attend F1 in Montreal? Recommendations?

2022 looks likes it will be a great car guy year.
Wife got us tickets for June 16th to 19th. (below not actual ticket but stocking stuffer stand-in she made)

Thinking of flying in early renting a car seeing Quebec City. I have heard that
that the public can drive on the track if you stay a few days after the event when they open the track as a park .

Canadian GP is a great place to attend. I worked Indy, Canada and Austin, and the experience at Canada was the best. I have not traveled out of the US very much, only a few trips to Vancouver, Toronto and Montreal. Going to Montreal for the race was a experience. Able to stay downtown, with the bars and restaurants, and take the subway out to the track/park/Island. Getting out there on race day is not too bad (we had to be out there early), but getting back to downtown after takes time, since there are long lines queuing up for the subway.
Weather was very nice the two years I attended.

Canadians are friendly and nice, food is so, so. Exchange rate is good toward the US. They sold programs for $20 Canadian or US, certainly pay with Canadian $.

I've attended 17 Canadian Grand Prixs...16 of them at the Giles Villenueve circuit. Montreal is a beautiful city and it and its townspeople do a great job hosting the event. We drive up on Thursday, but once there the car is parked for the duration. You'll want to stay at one of the hotels close to Crescent Street. It's where everything happens...including the restaurants and bars all within walking distance. We use the fantastic cab service for getting to the track. They drop you off just across the bridge close to the casino (yes, there's a casino in the middle of the track). Be prepared to hang around after the events of the day for bus service to an area where the cabs are lined up to return you to the hotel. Unless you're going for a longer stay, I'd do sightseeing at another time. Three days at the track for practice, qualifying, and the race will take some stamina...if you're young, that'll help. Weather can vary greatly. You may need warm clothing. You'll definitely want to take rain ponchos and wear good walking shoes...there's a lot of walking. Guarantee it'll be memorable.

Back in 2011, we got our money worth from the ponchos. Over an hour of piss down rain, they just did not want to cancelled the race. It restarted after a 2 hours rain delay, Jenson Button won on the last lap.

If you are close to the Start line, bring some ear plugs.

Have Fun

I have been to Montreal, Melbourne, Monza and Spa so have reference points.

Montreal you absolutely need grandstand seats, general admission is abysmal. It is also very cramped and transport leaving the event is really poor so plan ahead. Accommodation is always impossibly difficult, you need to book now, as in by EOD today.

It is a great atmosphere, Montreal is a great "bar and nightlife" city. There's just an element of european disorganisation about the place that you need to navigate.

Remember it well...sitting next to us was a young couple from Japan who arrived well dressed (like they were going out to dinner). Luckily we had extra ponchos which we gave them...they couldn't thank us enough.

Are they still going to be too irrationally terrified to even have a race in 2022?

Good luck but I'd see about a refund, book COTA or Miami.

We found an AirBnB one metro stop away and booked air travel. You were right things are being booked up fast and prices are rising.

Once there, get the 3 days Metro pass and you are all set. Now it's a waiting game, 171 days to go.

Keep an eye on the Covid requirement to cross the border.

It'll likely be cancelled again due to another COVID variant.

PM me so I can take these tickets off your hands so you don't have to be cancelled on and frustrated.

Bill,

Back in 2011, for 3 days, Grandstand 1 cost me $500 a pieces but it was worth it.

Grandstands tickets are not available yet, might want to call now to see if they have started a list; 1-855-227-4212 (Toll Free). Stay away from re-sellers sites (bogus promises where sales are final).

I cannot emphasise enough how bad GA is, it is like no other circuit I have ever been to.
