Dash Cam Recommendations
Looking to get a dash cam for the i3 since I’m constantly out in dtla, anyone has one and have recommendations? They all look pretty similar to me.
Requirements -WiFi -sleek design -built in battery/rechargeable if possible? (No wires) -if it has wires possible ability to hardwire? -good day and night recordings -at least 1080p? Much suggestions appreciated? |

Or buy whatever Costco is selling, so that you can return it later. They are worthless for anything other than placebo effect! a

Parents were in a parking lot fender bender where they and another car were backing into each other at a very slow speed. They traded paint and no dents. Right before the two year statute of limitations was up they got sued for $1 million dollars for a lot of BS. They were in the courts for almost a year somehow for this. I'm sure if they had the dash cam footage, they could have avoided the courtroom time and the stress it put on my parents 10 fold. This is why I roll with a dash cam always and to the OP, I recommend Blackvue |

Seams like both parties were partially at fault, and one decided to get lucky with a lawyer who filed an obnoxious and ambitious lawsuit. I assume you also download and archive all video footage, for posterity, just in case you get sued by someone in the future years? a

Yes I file all footage that is worthwhile of any incident. It doesn't really happen often, if at all. Not useless commute footage. Dashcams filter and categorize out all events into folders for you automatically so you don't have to. It's not hard and doesn't take much data. Much like a radar detector, it should pay for itself in one incident. Last edited by damageprone; 04-24-2019 at 10:05 AM.. |

Easy to install? I've been looking at getting some type of dash cam for my vehicles.

Not from personal experience, but from an i3 subreddit, a user has stated the following: "Whatever you do, BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU RUN THE WIRE! The i3's windshield is particularly weak when pushed from the inside. Be really careful. I urge you NOT to remove the a-pillar covers as when you put them back in they put windshield-breaking pressure on the glass."

I have a basic dash cam I got off amazon for under $60. It’s always your word against someone else’s and this was the case during an accident 3 years ago. Luckily my front dash cam proved I was not at fault and since then I’ve mounted them in all my cars front and rear (I found the rear camera or wiring at least can interfere with FM radio but I only listen to Sirius so doesn’t bother me). Another time I witnessed an accident right in front of me and gave the officer my SD card.
When I used to commute to NYC I bought one of those batteries that would let the camera record 24/7 based on motion (even when the car was parked). Little more expensive but that’s something to consider too. I never had issues with street parking but I did one time pick up my car from valet and heard the valet rev the crap out my 135is. Then the other hotel employee points to the dash cam and next thing I hear is driver say “oh wtf!?” and then proceed driving my car normally lol. I typically hard wire these but the i3 conveniently has 12v socket underneath the dash so it’s easy to route the cable across the headliner down the A pillar and under the dash. |
