With 90% of new i8's sold today being the roadster, the coupe version is pretty much EOL as we speak. I'm expecting roadster sales volumes to decline rapidly, anyone agrees BMW will most likely kill the i8 production by end of 2020?

Can someone confirm 10.000 coupes sold worldwide is a pretty accurate number?

I had no idea 90% of new sales were now the Roadster. Does that hold true in most markets?

Well, 90% is my "guesstimate" based on a small piece of the European market. 9 out of 10 i8's at local dealerships are the roadster.

We all know the i8 model would have been discontinued without the roadster for sure. Demand for the roadster will not last long IMHO. Now BMW has to decide if they are willing to reduce the price significantly (to keep shipping numbers up) which would be extremely bad for recent buyers (as depreciation would be killing ... again) or just stop production completely.

I doubt they would ever reduce the MSRP

They will likely continue to discount until there’s no more left

This car could have been marketed a bit better....very good deal at current prices

I think they'll eventually sell between 12-15,000 coupes by the end of this model's run. Also, BMW are talking about the next model i8 with a 4 cylinder engine that has more power.

Given they're thinking of a "next model" that's more powerful; and that the volumes sold in this model are quite high; I don't expect this model i8 will achieve "collector" status in my lifetime.

Not that any "collector" status influenced our purchasing decision. My wife and I bought it because we loved the looks and how it drives. We keep saying we'll sell it; but when it comes down to it...

... we still love its looks and how it drives.

If it's to hold true to bmw standards every model has a 6 year run- with a lay off then returns a year after.

But who knows here- they skipped MY2018 all together, so if not this coming MY2020, perhaps MY2021?

Car magazine says 2022. Shorter, lighter, hybrid 4 cyl. 500+ bhp.

The future looks bright.
