Local BMW Dealer Refuses To Update i8??

So I mentioned to my local dealer I wanted them to do the new update while it will already be in to find out what this noise it so I can stay up to date & they told me this.

"we don't do updates here unless there is a issue the update is supposed to fix & your saying you have that issue as the updates usually can just cause even more problems".

Is this rite??

I then said

"Well I thought it was like an iPhone new updates come out to make the car better & improve issues".

& He said

"Yeah well like iPhones you do an update & the whole phone could be messed up even more"

Now Im just like...Whaaaaaa???

Unfortunately, the decision to perform the update is left up to the dealer. As an i8 owner you are most probably the BMOC and can throw a little weight around. If you are not dealing directly with the service manager, I suggest having a little chat with him/her and share your desire to have your car, THEIR FLAGSHIP, as up to date as possible.

Good luck and please keep us posted.

Well. My system crushed during the update. I had to wait for a new computer two weeks.

My updated crashed too....then they had it remotely updated from New Jersey HQ and it worked like a charm, no need for a new computer in my case.

Hope it has been sorted out for you......bummer!

I remember the PROGMAN updates for the 6 series going back to 2006. The cars were fairly new to the Microsoft OS at the time and needed lots of patches. We were always swapping information about the most recent update and how to try to get it (and whether it was worth it).

Bottom line became that BMW stopped telling us about the PROGMAN updates and only did them on its schedule.

(And speaking about updates, the first Bangle butted 7 series introduced the iDrive. The iDrive turned out to be a disaster requiring BMW to buy back hundreds if not thousands of 745s. When it froze the car became a very large paperweight and was unfixable. I think BMW learned from that disastrous experience.)

I remember this.
When I purchased my first looked at 5s, there were 2 bricked 7s at the dealership. Not exactly confidence inspiring.
