Taking Propecia, what to expect?

Went to the dermatologist yesterday. She looked at my receeding hairline and told me that i could take propecia. So I'm on the pill right now. Those pills are so expensive! 62 bucks for 30 pills.
Supposedly it's like 85% effective?
Anyone taken it before? what to expect in term of results and side effects?

Of the four brothers in my family, only the youngest has a nearly full head of hair, the other 3 of us shave. The youngest lost al his hair to chemo at age 12, then satrted taking propecia at about 22.

I took it for a couple years.

I experienced no side effects but a significantly lighter wallet. +1 on the cost though, its rediculous... the pills are so damn tiny too.

I gave up on it because aside from the expense, I didn't see any results either after 24 months... but who knows, maybe I'm in the 15%.

Like everything else, there are cheaper options: buy generic (typically from an online outfit based outside the USA), convince your doc to write you a scrip for Proscar (also finasteride, but in 5mg dosage) and split it into fifths, or buy and split generic proscar (also likely obtained outside the USA). For obvious reasons you have to be very careful with the foreign stuff, and it's certainly not a risk everyone is willing to take, but if you get legit stuff it can save you an absurd amount of money and it can work just as well as the name brand.

It seems that you might be relatively new to this. If that's the case, I would recommend www.hairlosstalk.com as a good place to start. There are some very good articles there and (aside from what people discuss on the message boards) you won't find any recommendations for snake oil. Good luck.

i cannot believe that your doctor did not write the Rx for finasteride and instruct you to cut the pills...also strongly consider combination Rx with Rogaine 5%...

You also should have pictures taken every four months to evaluate your therapy...

Personally, I went bald...I kinda wish I had the past 20 years back to be more proactive with prevention...
