I showed this to my wife (who btw isn't biased about the new G8x face unlike me) and she said "never put that in our driveway" and "they need to stop making ugly future cars".

Design is well...different? BMW is really trying hard to break with every possible design cue from the past.

83k USD base model...so like 120-130k in Canada with a few options...hard pass.

This is very un-BMW like inside and out. Interior looks inspired by your local minivan at soccer practice.

Unfortunately they'll probably sell a shit ton of these. It's an EV, it's an SUV, and therefore it's trendy. There's a ton of uber wealthy people who will buy. These people could care less about BMW's heritage design.

X5/X7 are infinitely more appealing products.

That front design screams plastic. "Huge fake grill(S)" on an electric vehicle, oh come on man, this is really awful design. I'm a retired Mechanical Engineer with an Industrial Design degree and this design is tasteless.

In the press release for the i4 it says L2. Take a look at the press release for more info: https://g20.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1830505
Thanks a lot, very useful info. Well at least they didn't remove the radar like some other car manufacturer that starts with T…

Yeah, no thanks! I want an X5 form factor and design with electric drivetrain. That D pillar design is hideous. Where is the sharp side line? Door handles doesn't go with this! Where are those protruding painted wheel arches ? Where is the beloved Hofmeister kink? Making everything touch screen? LOL

This is clearly meant to be a unique vehicle and not meant to step on the toes of the more profitable X5, X7, etc. For those who want cutting edge looks, tech, etc. I'm sure we will get full BEV versions of the traditional X lineup eventually once EV tech is mainstream. For now, battery and charging infrastructure limitations dictate what BMW is willing to produce in the EV space. Just accept it for what it is. I think it's a very eye-catching and futuristic looking vehicle.

That being said, I wouldn't be able to live with a hexagonal steering wheel and door handles that require a button to be pressed before they can be grabbed (Comfort Access for auto-release?).

Also, where's the flip-out lower tailgate? Wifey likes it on her X7 as it has come in handy for changing the baby's diapers, among other things.

I thought I was going to be a buyer, but it's no longer looking that way, unfortunately. Oh well.

Anyone know if the iX will be manufactured in the USA or in Germany?

Originally, I thought since it's a SUV, it will be manufactured in the USA. But the more I look at it, the more it feels like it might be built in Germany.

Exterior and interior walkaround. This is the exact car I saw a couple of weeks ago (Bjørn lives in the same city as I do) and he confirms some of my observations (even though he's a Tesla fan boy, i.e. quality is not what's most important for him.): https://bmwi.bimmerpost.com/forums/s....php?t=1827011

I know its not all about 0-60 but 86k+ for 4.6 is pretty bad IMO.

Also why cant they (any car manufacturer) just design electric cars to look like normal cars, why is there a requirement for the ridiculous minimalist interior and silly exterior.

I think this is a vehicle targeted more to 50+ year old couples. It has an interesting (but questionable) resemblance to a RR suv but it leans too much on the MVP side for me.

The front is too high and flat and they when for Tesla style instead of making a true SUV, like Rivian.

One of the best luxury SUVs, the X5, should have been the goal here. Instead is a larger version of the i3.

I tried to give iX as many points as I could and at the end it became clear that the current X5 is a category leader for many good reasons.

Different for the sake of different is not a good design rationale.

It would not be surprising if X5 sales increase when iX becomes widely available.
