Cell Phone Placement

Couldn't find any reference to this with a forum search, so hopefully not beating a dead horse here...

I'm curious if anyone has found a holder and location for their cell phone that they find secure and well-placed in the i3. I took a look at ProClip, but the placement of their attachment is below the vents, which is way too low for me. I'd like to find an attachment that allows for placement above or alongside the i3's screen, but haven't been able to find one yet.

Any suggestions from the community here?

Cheers,

Chad

I have a magnetic mount suction mounted on the dash under the iDrive that allows my phone to sit right under the iDrive screen in the horizontal position. It doesn't block the screen nor any vents etc.

Here's the mount I used:

https://www.amazon.com/SCOSCHE-MAGWD...gateway&sr=8-2

I had to use the stick on circular pad on the dash since it wouldn't hold a seal.

To me, this is the perfect spot.

If you are flexible to mounting it lower, there are a few options that plug into the i3's removable cup holder sockets on the front of the center console:

https://www.multicopterwarehouse.com/mcwh-bmwi3

I plug my iPhone in through the USB port and interact with it through the iDrive menus for the few things that I need to be using a phone for while driving. I do miss Apple Carplay, but can live with the BMW stuff.....

Thanks for the replies. I'm really trying to find a mount option that will let the phone be near the i3 screen sounds like a glass or dash mount may be my only option.

The Kuda Mount is at the right height.

I tried 4 different models, ended up going with this guy (https://www.amazon.com/iOttie-Wirele.../dp/B07X5159GW) and mounted the pad in the back left corner of the area under the iDrive screen, and was able to get it angled so that it sits cleanly to the left of the iDrive screen w/o blocking it.

Why do you need the phone in sight when it has bluetooth integration with the car?

Waze has a turn by turn that displays on the phone while displaying just the next turn on CarPlay. It makes a nice companion to the iDrive. Also, when I'm watching movies I like to have waze on the phone since he iDrive screen will be playing the movie.

Yes. You can enable it with bimmercode. I enabled it for my son so he can watch during long drives.

I'm considering the Bimmercode. I'm so scared I'll mess up the car. How was it for you?

It's pretty simple. Just followed the directions to a T and coded 6 of my previous and current bimmers so far with no problems. I would use a blutooth based OBD scanner though, the wifi based ones tend to have connection issues, which you DON'T want in the middle of a coding.

The first thing that Bimmercode does is grab a backup of your controller config before making any changes. It is very difficult to brick a car with it, and dare I say impossible to brick it if you stay within the menu options and out of the advanced coding section.

On a side note, my trusty Kiwi3 and iPhone worked flawlessly with Bimmercode on my 2015 i3:

https://www.plxdevices.com/ProductDe...e=897346002832

Probably a little bit too expensive for one use coding an i3, but handy if you have other combustion-powered vehicles in your garage/driveway.....
