I8 roadster availability

Bought my UK roadster 3 months ago from BMW used and on the site there was approx 20 cars nationwide just looked again today and only 4 cars on site all priced lot higher.

Same story on auto trader....

Hopefully good signs for residual values

For now though just enjoying car looking forward to summer

In the same boat as you, so to speak.

Bought my 69 plate roadster brand new (pre reg) from BMW dealer in Feb 2020. There were dozens of them around. I traded it for my (owned from new) 2015 coupe which had 4.5k miles on the clock.

My approach was simple: 20k+ coupes made and 3k roadster made. I LOVED my coupe and would have happily kept it ever after. I was just slightly annoyed that BMW literally lied to 1st adopters by saying that it would be a halo product made in limited numbers.

So that was my way to counter what had happened in the early years: try and get the more collectible item.

I had LOTS of cars that i sold too early in my life at the moment when they were about to be collectible (964rs a case in point), now i have the roadster and keep it pristine and low miles.

In fact I am not too bothered now. Love the car, not much else i would have instead of it. I contemplated a McLaren 720s at some point, drove one and thought 'too much for the road and real life in general'. Plus a financial liability in every possible sense.

Let's see!

I did much the same - traded in my 16 plate Coupe but for an LCI Coupe. Most of the LCIs are Roadsters so I thought (maybe wrongly) that the LCI coupe may be even more scarce, albeit a little hidden in a forest of pre-LCI coupes!!

We'll see...

LCI coupe in donnington grey is lovely, i usually dislike silver ish colours on sports cars, but this is beautiful akin to GT silver in Porsches. Certainly a rarer site than the 'ubiquitous' roadster in sophisto grey aha!

No doubt that if any i8 ever becomes a collector, your version will be the one.

Probably same as M roadsters and M coupes from late 1990's the versions with S54 engine (rather than S50) are very rare and sought after.

I am still annoyed since I bought one in 2014 under the impression that......whatever, got 11K miles on it and it is garaged for the occasional drive. I have enjoyed it a lot and that car still turns heads. I just don't know what the market in the US for these cars looks these days and wonder when or if prices will climb.
