cigarette lighter

The cigarette lighter is so shallow. I am not able to put a charger and a cord without leaving the center console open. I am using a tiny charger and an angled usb cord. But still the center console will not close. Do you guys have any ideas?

Are you trying to charge your phone through USB? Why not connect directly to the USB port in the middle console? That is what I do.

There is a cigarette lighter under the glove box on the passenger footwell. Thats where I plug my charger in. It's hidden but roughly above the left knee

Use the other usb outlet in the compartment to the front of the one with the lighter socket in?

This is what I do for my radar detector.

There's an adapter for the center console for your phone charger. The dealership will have a couple of different kinds.

Anyone find a power adapter for the center console that allows it to be shut. I have radar detectors, and dvr cameras on my dash, need to power them. Doesn't seem either one of these turn off when switched off, seems all time power.

The USB ports don't provide enough power. You will need an ACC port and a dedicated USB charger for a full 2.4A of usb charging power.

I've tried all of these options below and they all fit/work in the i8 Console with the cover closed. (Its a stupid design)

Get a low profile USB charger:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

And use a USB charging cable (M-F) with an angled head:

..or a 90 degree USB adapter:

Ditto to above.
I'm using the dual usb cigarette adapter, with two right angled usb/lightning cables. Console door closes without any problem.

I"ve got both as well - hardwired.
Much cleaner look that way, not that hard to do if doing it yourself, or should not be too much $ to get someone to do it.

I connected my escort 360 & M1 dash cam through a mirror tap. was super easy to do and no cables hang down. looks super clean! it all shuts off when the car is turned off.

Radar detectors and dvr cameras (specifically) don't lend themselves well to be powered from the console port. If you want to power those type of more "permanent" things, its better and much cleaner to use a micro-fuse tap right from your fuse box. There are even a couple of fuse slots completely empty (You can use the microtap on fuse slots which are empty or in use). You can also select fuse slots that are only powered when the car is running (aux). No splicing or soldering required! Just pop it in!

The fuse box only requires unscrewing TWO screws and its easily accessible (right under the glove box). Then you can run your wiring up the A-Pillar right behind the trim and rubber door seals. No need to remove any trim panels, just tuck it in...

Here is the micro-fuse tap: https://www.amazon.com/10-Pack-Add-c...de+Fuse+Holder
