A group of friends and I did that exact same hike (Happy Isles > Vernal Falls > Nevada Falls > Half Dome) 2 years ago. Rather than camp halfway, we did it as a one-day trip (arrived at Happy Isles parking lot at 6 am; got back down at 6 pm). Definitely the most memorable hike I've ever done.

The craziest part of the hike was going up/down the cables. On the way down, a thundercloud appeared in the distance heading towards Half Dome. Needless to say, people were getting stressed out (since Half Dome, being one big granite rock, essentially acts like a lightning rod). Adding to the stress was a family with toddlers who were taking their sweet time going down the cables. Took about 1 hour to get down (should only be 5-10 minutes), all the while watching the lightning get closer and closer. I've never seen that many people swear at a bunch of kids. When we got down to Nevada Falls, Half Dome was completely swathed in lightning; I pity anyone that was still up there by that time.

Crazy, yeah we were lucky that there wasn't a cloud in the sky. I've heard too many horror stories about storms and half dome.

We really wanted to take our time and just enjoy it as a full weekend, so we went the camping route. Carrying ~35-40lb of gear on our backs was not easy with how steep the trail was at points and the factthat for the most part this was everyone's first time backpacking, but we made it and it was fantastic!

Niiice! My friends and I are planning to do the same hike next time we go to Yosemite (hopefully before summer ends). I also recognized that 3rd picture (the hike up to Vernal Falls yes?). hehe

Yep, that's the one. Do you already have permits for half dome? You need them to go up the cables.
