Update from my dealer 12/27/2022. I live in the USA. My dealer is in Maryland. BMW states that they will have an update to my dealer by the 2nd week of January.

Ugh. It is going to be a while before I get my car.

Still waiting.

My SA said car was scheduled for transit from VPC to dealer…never made it there so I’m assuming it’s still at VPC.

Let’s see what comes out in a few weeks.

My car was delivered to the VPC in New Jersey December 5 - it is still there. My dealer tells me they cannot get any information on why it is there, they don't see any recall attached to it, but it is just a waiting game. Others seem to get better info from their dealers...is it just me???

I brought my car to the dealer today for a software update. My car did not appear in the NHTSA vin search for the SME recall, but it DID show up as a part of the recall in the internal tool at the dealer. It looks like, at least for my car, the fix is purely software. I am assuming that they will flash everything to the newest stable build and clear the recall...

They are generally not allowed to release it back to you unless the updates are applied. They probably won’t even ask you.

Also, any recalls already performed won’t show up on those websites and are generally only for safety recalls.

I called customer relations today - I have the program control unit AND electric drive replacement recalls. It seems they have parts for new cars on the assembly line but can't get them to the VPC to replace in built cars!

Dealer installed 11/2022.44 which remedied the glitches I was seeing in maps and DAPP, and also cleared out the SME recall.

Not sure if it's related or if it's the same thing:

"BMW is recalling 14,086 EVs, though it believes that only 1 percent of those cars would be affected by the problem. Specifically, it's recalling 5,389 iXs built between February 4, 2021, and October 28, 2022; 8,659 i4s built between March 17, 2021, and October 26, 2022; and 38 i7s built between February 22, 2022, and October 27, 2022."

So the ECU repair is just software? The Program Control Unit is supposed to be fixed by the November software update, but is this one not fixed by that version?

11/2022.44 addresses this recall, according to the service department at my dealer.

Anyone have this repaired yet? Wife just put a deposit on an M50 with a stop sale on it and we are trying to get an idea of when these may be fixed.

Depends on want the specific problem with the car is. My dealer is saying if the car only needs a software update then there should be one by the end of Janurary. If you need a replacement motor or battery pack then it will be a long time according to internet rumors. According to the internet BMW is prioritizing production of cars vs repairing of existing cars.

My car cleared the 0061400700 defect with the software update 11/2022.44.
However, now I have the 0012930500 defect and got an email from BMWNA.

BMW of North America is dedicated not only to providing premium vehicles for our customers, but exceptional service as well. To ensure our vehicles are of the highest industry standards, BMW performs ongoing quality analyses throughout a model’s life cycle. During a recent quality analysis, it was determined that due to a supplier production issue, the electric drive unit in your vehicle may fail.
The parts are available so there will be no delay for this repair to be completed.
Please reply to this email with the name of your preferred dealership so I may instruct them to order the parts to get the process started. I will be notifying the dealer to contact you to have an appointment scheduled at a time that is convenient to you.

thank you

There’s more information on this stop sale situation in the IX forum… but no good news!

The problem is global and affects IX50/M60, I4M50 and I7 vehicle builds of this period.

With BMW EV Vehicle Production demand so high and lack of stock, it is obviously very difficult for BMW to release these brand new EDU assemblies to dealers around the world for repairs resulting in “production stop” on the Vehicle lines.

Unfortunately, this is going to take many weeks to flush out.

My IX50 was stopped the day before delivery and when the EDU news broke, I opted out and ordered a new car with a scheduled Feb build - although that may get affected by the tail end of this Delivery Stop conundrum!

I have yet to see anyone report on these forums that they have had their EDU swapped ??

Not a great start to the latest BMW EV product step!

I haven't seen anyone have their car fixed/delivered. I did speak with the Genius line today and they informed me that last week all of the cars were "red" but now mine shows "green" with "remedy available" so in theory that means parts are available and they just have to schedule my car to get fixed...we'll see if that is really the case.

Just called my sales rep about my iX M60 produced early November with the stop sale flag. Interestingly he said he is unaware of any EDU replacement instruction from BMW Canada, but software update for i4 is now being pushed for deliveries and iX will follow suit early February. Anyone can confirm?

As of last Wednesday my sales associate told me that there is a software fix for my i4 and they are waiting for it to get installed by the VPC. They say that I don’t need a new motor. We will see what happens after the software fix gets installed.
