Other BMW drivers

BIMMERPOST
     Featured on BIMMERPOST.com
So, I have noticed that other BMW drivers seem interested in what the heck I am driving (not sure how widely known the iX is). Also, a fair number keep trying to race me, which is sort of funny since I am just driving how I normally do and they cannot keep up. Curious if anyone else has noticed similar, or if this is a weird Austin, TX thing.

It's a weird Austin, TX thing. Probably because Austin is actually part of California. 😄

Funny, I get the same thing. I picked up my IX last April (one of the 1st in US to take delivery). Yesterday I had people come up to the car and ask me questions. I never expected this much attention 9 months later, however, I have only seen 2 on the road since I purchased mine. So at least in S. Florida its rare to see them

Other BMW drivers looking at the car cause they're curious? Yes all the time. I've had some come ask me questions about the range, charging, how I find it, is the heating ok in cold weather, etc.

Racing? No.

I have seen as many iX's (not dealer demo's) on the road as I have seen Lucid Air. So, yeah, I can understand the curiosity from other drivers.

As for racing, I get that from Tesla drivers and they quickly back down when I drop the hammer on the 8-series. I haven't run across a plaid trying that yet. But then I've mostly grown past that stage.

2022 BMW IX  [0.00]
There are still precious few IXs in New Zealand but I’ve seen a few on the road. Almost every time the other drivers waved at me. When I park on the street outside my office there’s also lots of interest from pedestrians. Racing…all the time especially people in UTEs/Pickups and little hot hatches. What I have noticed is a general lack of interest from other EV owners but I suspect that the price in NZ puts it out of the realm of awareness for the majority of EV buyers (almost 3x TMYs or 4x BYD Attos). And then of course there’s the tall poppy syndrome that NZ is known for…

The funny thing is that I am not actually racing them. In all my vehicles (Porsche, BMW and Honda) I get up to speed quickly from a light/stop sign and then go speed limit +/- 5mph (following flow of traffic). A lot of people think I am racing, which I find humorous as if I actually were they wouldn’t still be close to me.

I don’t miss living in Austin after living there several times totaling about 20 years. Compared to Houston or Dallas, no one knows how to drive.

You know who DOES know how to drive? My iX's ADAS. Now I look for highway traffic so my car can drive me. It's really easy to find in Dallas.

Amen! Due to excitement and anxiety, I didn’t sleep much the night before purchasing my vehicle in Corpus last weekend. I was so tired the next morning that it did not take me long to trust or get used to the autonomous driving features. I was pretty much driven the entire way home to Houston.

Here in Denver, I have only seen two iXs on the road and parked. The one parked at a store was getting a lot of attention. The owner said most people were seeing it for the first time; they recognized the BMW badging but didn’t know the car existed.

No one cares here in Canadian Oil Country. They just see it as an anonymous blob. They only people who have been interested in my IX are the dealership service advisors who have never seen one.

I've had a few stares, but their expressions just look like they don't recognize the vehicle. This is in contrast to when I bought a new M-Class in '99. The huge (at that time) Mercedes logo was unmistakable, and strangers looked downright excited to see one.

BMW drivers here in L.A. are VERY intrigued with the iX, especially ///M drivers. I am being filmed all the time and get thumbs up daily!

I get more attention in this car than I can remember- only the Lotus Elise I had as a young man can rival it. I see folks proper rubber knecking to give it the once over

This explains why a guy in an Escalade was flashing his lights as me yesterday for what I thought was for no reason.

Once I had somebody in truck cross two lanes and drive in front of me, roll coal and speed away.

In Bergen County NJ nobody cares from what I’ve seen. I got rid of MYP partially because it would get lost in a sea of teslas in parking lots. Lo and behold, in just my neighborhood there are three of us that own an IX. What has caught the attention at the school pickup line (if that really matters) is who just bought the black edition rolls Royce Cullinan? I like that the IX is a sleeper that hasn’t attracted much attention at all. I’ve probably seen six IXs on the road in the past month.

Have not owned a 3 series (had a c43 years ago) and haven’t been on the 3 series forum (just the x5). But if you met someone from Bergen county, you’ve met them all.

Hehe. He was a "controversial" member on the 3 series forum on another site (but I think he posted here as well) that got banned eventually (probably was banned here too). He posted a lot and often enough provided good info and pics. I guess he repeatedly crossed the line in some of his posts. I don't remember anything specific, but do remember him living in Bergen county NJ. Ah well. Good memories.

Cheers!
