Pregnant Wife Being Unreasonable

My wife is pregnant. We are super excited. She is due August 22, 2009. I've never been more excited or ready for something in my life.

That said...we have a brunch to go to on Sunday Morning in Washington, Dc. She wants to bring Champagne. She can't drink (because she's knocked up) and I don't drink Champagne. In addition, one of the guests is breast Feeding a new born (and thus shouldn't be drinking) and another guest is pregnant as well. So...bringing champagne doesn't make sense.

I suggested we bring a jug of Pepsi and a sack of Chips Ahoy. She refuses.

I mean...who doesn't like Pepsi and Chips Ahoy? Why must we be so god damned fancy-schmancy all the time?

Bring some of that sparkling white grape juice crap. It's non-alcoholic but still tastes somewhat like champagne.

Just bring the champagne. It's not worth a fight. She's not going to drink it or is probably not planning on drinking it and the other friend can do what she wants.

She just wants to keep up appearances and thinks by bringing champagne she'll accomplish that. It's not a big deal and not worth the headache.

Do you know how many times I've brought crap to a party and not had any of it? It happens all the time!

Honestly, I agree...

They was an episode of Seinfeld where George argued this exact point and Kramer told him he should bring "Ring Dings"

if you want to be really impressive...make a nice quiche...all the other women will telling your wife how sweet and thoughful you are...that will get you wife all thinking how much of a great guy you are...nothing better than vacation sex...

but agree...NEVER argue, criticize or disagree with a pregnant woman...and don't worry...her body will all go back to normal...(except if she gets stretch marks)

I really hate the "Oh whatever" response. Hearing "oh whatever" tells me 2 things. 1 that she was wrong and she won't admit it, and 2 that I was right but she doesn't want to acknowledge that either. So they just say oh whatever as if to trivialize the conversation.

The only way to counter this that I've found is to just be a straight up dick. Not to agree with their rationalization of the situation, and remain quite black and white about things.
