Very rare Rolex ref 5100 (beta 21 quartz movement) dubbed the "Texan"

Inherited, being the 3rd generation now, a wonderful talking piece, and the only "numbered" (hand etched on the case back) Rolex has ever offered, aside from models issued to the military. Shares a movement with the Patek and Audemars of the era, and predates the Oysterquartz. Bracelet designed by Gerald Genta. The second hand still "sweeps" while the movement makes a calming hum when held to the ear!

Been over a year, and I'm STILL waiting on my white faced Daytona since I only buy at MSRP.

My wife and I were very lucky last year acquiring her 34mm AP Royal Oak, chocolate Yacht-Master Everose 37, and my Sea-Dweller....

I'm in the same boat regarding MSRP.

I picked up my GMT from my AD after a service yesterday and they offered me a DJ41 (they said I could pretty much ask for any DateJust and they should be able to order it directly), but that the steel sport watches were either (1) you come in randomly on a weekday and are lucky or (2) you get called up on the list when the one you want comes in. That being said... they hinted that Rolex *has* ramped up production and that this particular AD was opening a "Rolex Boutique" (his words, I know that, at least right now, Rolex does not do "boutiques" in the watch world sense like Panerai, IWC, Omega, AP, VC, etc.). He hinted that "why would we buy the entire next door store to annex to our jewelry store as a Rolex-only area if we had nothing to sell (i.e., they will have plenty of models to sell)

Longs opened a Rolex store last year or so on Newbury St. in Boston, and they still only have a few watches on hand for sale....mostly DateJusts. I've been on their "waiting list" for a Daytona for over year now....even after buying multiple Rolexes from them. I get it though, why sell a Daytona to me at MSRP when they can get 3 times that selling out the backdoor.

A block away from the Rolex store is a new AP boutique where my wife got her Royal Oak. She only had to wait 3 months....

My AD, which is a jewelry store with a Rolex and PP section, basically said it would take "years" (like 5+) for a steel daytona. I'm on the younger side, so I'm fine waiting, but hopefully, if this new "boutique" opens and claims of Rolex ramping up production is true, I may have it sooner rather than later!

Excited for "Watches and Wonders" on the 30th! I'm also on the "list" for a green-faced Oyster Perpetual 41mm or Milgauss "z-blue" whichever comes first (unless the Milgauss is discontinued, as rumored).

I hope the best for you, and for me as well!

I'm at the point though where if I don't see a Daytona by the end of this year at MSRP, and I'm still willing to plunk down what it costs these days to buy a Daytona on Chrono24, I'd rather buy an AP Royal Oak Offshore chrono, again if I can get it at MSRP.

If I'm lucky enough to land a Daytona at MSRP, that's great, but there's no way I'm going to spend $40k plus on a damn tool watch.

The current watch environment is why I am keeping my two Rolexs and not thinking about adding a third.

Absolutely agree. You may have luck with AP since you have one; our AP boutique in Beverly Hills has basically said (kindly, not in a mean way) that if you don't have a buying history, there is just no way you would ever be able to buy a Royal Oak due to demand and the fact that they have to go to their list of known buyers first. However, at least with AP, I hear the story is different in Europe and many first-time buyers are welcome. Patek is similar in the US (need a history with a PP AD). With Rolex, at least I have somewhat of a history with my AD.

I've been more interested in Vacheron Constantin lately. No history needed to get on a list if you're interested in a watch. That being said, I'm very happy with my current collection, and I just don't need to drop $30k+ on a watch at this stage in my life, whether I can afford it or not.

The Daytona has simply been a grail watch of mine, and having just turned 29, I'm hoping to have one at MSRP at least before I'm 35.

I'm on the list at my AD for a SeaDweller 43. I have a 1998 Sub to wear (bough it new) to keep its place worn until I get it.

You suck!!!! lol

How long did you wait for it? I could pay up from a Grey market dealer, but really want to wait for MSRP.

I love the size, after 20 years the Sub feels small. And the DDSD is WAY too big.

Rumors are this watch is being retired, will find out in a few days when Rolex announces the new line up.

As for how I got this, it's a whole other story and random luck.

I like the size, but I'm 6'1 so it fits me. I also have a GMT and Sub that are 40mm, yes, they wear better. The SD43 is tall vs the others, no so much the width that you notice.

Honestly a bit disappointed in the Watches & Wonders release… not a fan of that green GMT and the Air King has never caught my eye.
