Now that production is ending...
Will the i3 have the cult status of the original Beetle? I think so, as it's just quirky enough to have the same following

I love the i3. I've had 3 of them. But no, there wasn't enough of an enthusiast community around it even in its hay day. This forum has like 1200 threads for the i3 over 10 years. The F01 7 Series has twice that. There's more 7 series community than i3. And unlike the Z8 or perhaps the i8, the i3 was never an aspirational car so there isn't a group of buyers waiting just until they get cheap.
I also don't think the car will be maintainable in a few years for tires alone. So a handful of diehards might keep them going, but new people aren't going to discover the i3 now. |

Doubtful. EV tech is evolving rapidly. It's like PCs back in the 20th century and cellphones today.
I appreciate the i3 as what it was. A quirky Smart-car lookalike EV foray by BMW. The juxtaposition of the i3 and i8 is pretty extreme. The latter has a higher chance of classic status. |

I've also had 3 i3's and loved all of them. It's one of BMW's most underrated and misunderstood cars. A classic in my own heart.
