2015 Audi A4

Picked up a "new to me" 2015 Audi A4 (2.0 AWD) yesterday. I tested the 328xi and just could not get comfortable. It was used as a service loaner at the dealer I bought it from and it had less than 10k miles and a full (albeit short) service history. The Audi will be my DD and the M235i is for fun

I've got an 07 a4 110000 miles on it. I keep it for winters and to give ny daily a breather. Audi has been a great car. 110000 miles and never had first problem. Really good car....

Bit of an apples to oranges comparison (A4 vs M235i). Comparing the A4 to the 328xi would better. I tested a 2015 used 328xi which cost more and came with a lot fewer features. The 328xi is a great car but the one I tested the seat bottoms were basically flat and the seats did have that extension on the front like you get with the sports seats (they didn't have a used M sport on the lot at the time). My M235i spoiled me because when I got in to the 328 it just felt cheap.

Everything really boiled down to getting a comfortable car that had AWD, auto trans, and a good set of all season tires. The BMW got a two out of four.

Thoughts: I will probably never buy a BMW with an automatic. Who would have thought that a company could over engineer a gear selector! What happened to the simple PRNDL selector?

Coding is MUCH easier on VW/Audi than BMW, VCDS is so much easier to use and you use the same software to run diagnostics and read/clear codes.

That's good to read. Your not putting oil in it every other day? That has been the big theme I get when I talk to people with high mileage VW/Audi's.

It does drink oil. You are right about that. I add a quart abou every 1500 miles or so. But other than that its been flawless....

Audi's are great cars, but haven't come out with anything in the M3/M4 class lately.

What happened to the R4, TT-RS, Quattro, etc.? Perhaps if they updated the RS5?

Non sport seats in the 3 series kind of stink. This was true of the E90 as well. MSport might be a $$ package, but the seats, steering wheel and shift knob make it feel different than the base car.

I've got an '04 A4 wagon, manual transmission. Brilliant car once you get used to the lag (keep it in the power band). With 129,000 miles, it doesn't seem to go through any more oil than any previous cars I've had. No more problems with it than the others too. Best practical car I've owned (except the TR6)... so far. Much more capable on the road in the snow than my Jeep (unless it got deep). Having difficulty deciding whether to keep it when the F80 arrives. Might just keep it for the occasional ski trip...

OP, good choice for a DD. Best of luck.

^Yes!^ The wagon is the way to go for a DD. So versetile, but you can get it to perform.

I'm thinking to go Allroad or A4 Avant S-line when my lease it up on the VW. They're great cars when properly equipped and some of the most handsome on the road.

Gorgeous to look at but DAMN they are small inside. We rented one in geneva and four adults plus a child with child seat was insanely tight. The boot is also laughable, why we don't get the A6 wagon here is utterly beyond me.

We had a VW Tiguan with the same setup in Italy for 10 days. It's shorter than the afformentioned wagons but we still managed to fit 4 adults and a kid in a child seat WITH all of our luggage. I'm talking about my daily driver - my kids will rarely be in it. We have a Grand Cherokee when we really need the extra space.

The back is a bit tight. I'm almost 6' and with driver's seat set for my driving position I can fit in seat behind behind myself but I wouldn't want to be back there for very long. The seat backs have a hard plastic cover that won't be too nice on people's knees. The trunk (boot) is a good size and the seats fold down if I need to carry anything.

Its funny how many people haven't been too friendly to BMW's iDrive system...try using the Audi system (MMI?). The jog wheel that you scroll thought menus with is backwards, clockwise is up counter-clockwise is down. Its like the system was designed in the UK (or another country that's left hand drive).

I HATED the MMI system in my S4 for this exact reason. It was completely counterintuitive. I'll take iDrive any day. Also the scroll buttons on the wheel are terrible. If you look down and see that the option you want to select is three down from the top, you want a button you can click three times to arrive at that option with ease. Having it be a scroll wheel makes it impossible to select the option you want! Hate that stupid system. It also lags like CRAZY!

New A4? It hasn't been released yet. That's essentially a body style that has been around for 6+ years now.

If there were good back roads to get to and from work I probably would, at least in the summer.
