BMW i4 eDrive40 M Sport order....divided....

I currently own a 2018 G30 520d MSport and it's just too big. I'm really done with it. I've genuinely been stuck down some streets (I live in Spain where they can get seriously narrow), and I've taken to carrying two planks of wood and some wedges in the boot in case I need to ride up the sidewalk to get down narrow streets. (19" wheels and high kerbs suck).

So I want a smaller car and the i4 looks like the perfect option, but I'm really struggling to reserve something I've never driven.

My dealership has given me what I think is a good deal and a good PX on my G30 (just 25% less than I paid for it 2 years ago), and the repayment lease on the i4 is about 320eur per month which isn't bad. I'm also getting a "free" wall charger and installation thrown in along with 4 years of servicing a some other extras thrown in including window tinting and a couple of lower end extras.

Here's my configuration in case you are interested:

https://configure.bmw.es/es_ES/configid/6kt2it7u

So here's my dilema:
  • I've not even seen the car, let alone driven it.
All the reviews are about the M model which is a very different car.
What if I don't like it?
Top speed is limited to just 190km/h which is quite slow. When travelling around Europe, I've happily cruised at 220-230 in my G30 without missing a beat. (Will that annoy me?)
It's a bloody heavy car! 2.2 tonnes! Not sure if it matters much but it's 500kg heavier than my G30!
I've not spec'd the HUD. Will I miss this? (Another 1800eur more or less).

Lots to consider. I guess my biggest worry is buying a car that hasn't even been released yet and what I can do if I don't like it or change my mind.....

Can you get into a 4 series gran coupe for a drive? They are identical inside. I'm going on blind faith and ordered up the i4 M50.

But you can get an idea how it feels to drive this car.

How much smaller are you expecting the i4 to be? In cm im pretty sure the difference is very small. If thats your biggest problem i would look more into it.

Edit: checked and the G30 is only 6mm wider than the i4.

I drive a G30 5 series and the 4 series Grand Coupe is not much smaller either in width or length.

Looking into an i4 M50 as well. The complete 2022 production of the i4 M50 is sold out here in Belgium. :-(
(not sure if they limited the production due to the current shortages)

I waited 10months on my current X5 45e. Was one of the first ones to receive it. Had to deal with some gremlins. Nothing serious but garage had to do 3 software updates in first 5 months of ownership to get everything sorted out.

Although I like my X5, I decided to let others find those gremlins on a new model. So 6 months after the first ones are delivered I will contact my garage again. :-)
