Traded my M6 GC for a 2016 i8 ACS

Hi everyone,

After 2 years driving an M6 Gran Coupe it was time to change it and after test driving an i8 the choice was quickly made
Yesterday finally I could pick up my newest ride and it is fantastic.
It's full option and has the complete AC Schnitzer options and had also the carbon trims installed inside which are not yet available as an option over here.
Glad to be part of the i8 community and will post my experiences and more pictures the coming weeks.

Congratulations and welcome!

Your car looks amazing and I hope that you will enjoy many miles of enjoyment.

I have ACS structural parts on my M6 and have been impressed with the quality and fitment. The Type V wheels are among my favorites.

Please post more pics, especially of the rear wing. I'm not sure where I fall on it any more having seen yours but I was negative after seeing the press photos.

Cheers-mk

Stunning. First customer owned ACS i8 I've seen. Enjoy in good health.

Here some more pictures of the back spoiler.
I also was sceptic but it looks stunning in real.

What measurable advantages are there for this spoiler? I thought the wings over the haunches did what the rear spoiler seems designed to do.

What are your honest pros/cons from an m6 to an i8?

i8 Pros: Exterior Design, Rarity, Feels stronger from a dig (up to about 80mph) because of better traction and (for the most part) immediate torque, I also found the hybrid tech to be more compelling than I originally imagined.

Cons: not as many bells and whistles inside, less stowaway room, not as tunable as an M, will never be as fast as an M6, exhaust note can't compare to the TTV8.

All that being said I don't regret the switch one bit and would do it all over again in a heartbeat.

Hahahaha you may have noticed that I took all car pics down from my IG because I'm VERY close to closing a deal on one and want to surprise folks

I'm honestly just scared I'm going to miss the v8. It's reassuring knowing you're completely good with the i8 since we have similar taste with rides

That's 2 for the i8 over the m6!

Thanks fellas, I needed the push in the right direction.

OP- sorry for the thread jack. Just wanted to get honest feedback of those who had the f13 and switched over to the i8 and if it's a step forward.

Hi guys,

I'll post later some more detailed pictures.
To be honest don't know the real function of the rear wing for me it makes the car more agressive and beautiful. Maybe check the ACS website to find out more details.
The ACS body kit and 21 inch wheels makes the i8 so more complete as without I don't like it as much. Everything is in CF and this makes it expensive. For body kit and wheels you look at an extra +- 25K USD but the quality is excellent.
I also had a lot of doubts to trade my 2014 M6 GC for an 2016 M6 GC just because of the V8 and the tuning like exhausts and performance pack but till now I don't regret it for a second.
The i8 feels like a true sports car and the handling and driving is pure BMW.
I drive/drove a lot of sports cars and the i8 is for me on top of the list. It looks exotic and in it's class it only have a few comparable cars like the P1, 918 Spyder, LaFerrari but those are way more expensive.
When you don't like the attention of the i8 (as this is a lot) keep the M6 as less people turn around their head or approach you.
No cons for the moment but only have it for a few days.

It's interesting, actually. I recently did some fast driving on wet, dirty roads. The dirt streaks on the car where like a windtunnel imprint - you could see how the air was flowing. Two interesting observations:

(1) the air seemed to be channeled in a wedge shape from the roof over the rear window and right onto the tiny lip at the end of the car.

(2) the tops of the two side wings were completely clean! That seems to indicate there's no downforce created there (but maybe there is by the wheel arches).

I tried to take some pictures, but they didn't turn out very well.

Very nice as usual with a i8. All but the spoiler. I love spoilers on most cars but just takes away from & does not look good on the i8 to me. Looks kind of silly

Wow, very interesting observations. Seems to me like it's the taillights producing downforce from your picture with the air passing over the wheel arches and under those overhangs.

Clean side wings seem to mean something different to me -- like the airflow is there and the down force is a byproduct (and an intended one).

Anybody got a wind tunnel?

Not so sure. Everywhere where the air really streams across, you get dirt deposited in straigth streaks. So much so, that it's hard to wash off. This goes for the hood, the sides of the car, the roof, etc. The areas that stay clean are ones where the dirty, wet air doesn't even make any meaningful contact. You can see that sometimes on airplanes if you happen to fly with a carrier that doesn't clean their planes that often.

Even the back of the car had some spots deposited by air forced into turbulence. But the winglets where clean as a whistle.

You already have access to one.

Go to a self service car wash equipped with a high-pressure water nozzle, stand in front of the car and spray down the cars longitudinal axis. Aim down the sides, dead center, as well as dead center moving the nozzle in a 30 degree horizontal arc from dead center.

If one does this on a reasonably still day, one can see how the air will flow over the vehicle. If you take a friend and don't mind getting a bit wet, you can see it from the rear and observe how the airflow detaches from the body.
