Calm down, Jesus. We aren't talking about the average criminal here. Lets deal with this case alone. Tell me this, why was she arrested?

Sorry - sometimes tone doesn't come across the internet very well. That wasn't meant to be a yelling statement, just a comment. Sorry about that.

I am not fully knowledgeable as to why she was arrested, just that it appears they charged her with willful violation of the US Embargo and Trade Sanctions laws for doing business with Iran.

She committed fraud. She falsified financial records.

Right. So under the Canada US extradition treaty, Canadian authorities are bound to arrest individuals known to be in Canada at the request of their American counterparts and vice versa. The problem I have is the US has been silent on what to do next. She needs to either be freed or transferred to the US.

Breaking news...I think we are somewhat off the hook.

Yeah - I would imagine that the silence is on purpose. But yes, there is no reason she should still be in Canada. She should have been extradited immediately unless she contests it. Unsure of how that works in Canadian courts. Looks like she did contest it and is now receiving a hearing in Canada.

The whole thing is ridiculous. It appears to be a distraction of sorts from the real issues. Oh well, makes for good forum banter.

I saw a headline about her being freed. I missed the $10 million bail. I wonder if she'll skip? Anybody want to take odds?

Depends on two things:

1) Did they take her passport, or does she have a way out of Canada?

2) If China tells her to skip bail.

Conditions of her bail include handing over her multiple passports to the court, wearing an electronic monitor and not leaving home overnight.

Fair. That being said, I would assume that she is unlikely to skip bail.

I'd agree, but I wouldn't be surprised if she did. She has the means, and I suspect that the Chinese government could facilitate her getting out of the country.

She owns property and has family in Vancouver. I would say the odds of her skipping are slim to nil.

Fun fact...any of you Bell or Telus mobility customers out there, the radio access network is all Huawei.

I'm aware of her family and property. She can afford to leave Canada and risk forfeiture of the property, and FTR Canadian courts are notorious for not actually taking Bail money when they could. Canada wouldn't arrest her family if she fled so I'm not sure how that's an anchor for her. Her family would be free to leave Canada if she fled. I'm not saying she will flee, I'm saying I wouldn't be surprised given the risk of spending a very long time in a US prison. We can argue that she will get a fair trial in the US, she will and she can afford the best lawyers. I haven't seen the evidence but I understand this has been an ongoing issue since before Trump came to power and I only mention that for interest sake. This may all get worked out between the US and China at very high levels, but if I was her I wouldn't want to be a pawn in a very high stakes pissing contest.

So again, will she flee, probably not but I wouldn't be surprised if she did.

Why would she risk fleeing? If she did, she would never be able to enter a country with extradition treaties with the US or Canada again without fear of arrest. She is the CFO of one of China's largest companies who do business all over the world. She isn't going anywhere.

Even if she did abscond, who cares, no skin of Canada's back. If the US wanted her, she should have been released to US authorities immediately.

Why would she flee, to avoid going to the US and risking 30 years in a US prison. I suspect that trumps her job as CFO. Regarding the Canadians handing her over to US authorities, they can't. There is due process that has to be followed. Extradition is a process and it would be illegal for Canada to hand her over without going through that process.

Again, I'm not saying she will flee, but that I wouldn't be surprised if she did.

Yeah, that's horseshit. Trump should have kept his mouth shut. Complete crap that someone is arrested for what appears to be a legitimate charge and then the President says he would intervene to forge a trade deal?

That's crap, man. He (Trump) should be ashamed.
