Aaron Rai wins the new BMW i8 Roadster with a hole in one at BMW International Open
BIMMERPOST NEWS Aaron Rai wins the new BMW i8 Roadster with a hole in one at BMW International Open June 23, 2018... Cologne. The incredible run continues: Gut Lärchenhof has now hosted the BMW International Open four times, and on each occasion a player has won the BMW Hole-in-One Award. In this year’s second round, it was the turn of England’s Aaron Rai to achieve this spectacular feat on the 16th hole. This stroke of genius with a 6-iron earned the 23-year-old a dream prize: The new BMW i8 Roadster*. Peter van Binsbergen, Senior Vice President Sales and Marketing BMW Germany, handed the key over to the delighted 23-year-old. The captivating appeal of the world’s most successful plug-in hybrid sports car can now be experienced with the roof down. The BMW i8 Roadster features a turbocharged three-cylinder engine, dihedral doors, a windscreen frame made from carbon-fibre-reinforced plastic (CFRP) and an electrically operated soft-top, not to mention the plug-in hybrid drivetrain that has received multiple awards and, with a power output of 275 kW (374 hp), allows the car to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.6 seconds. When the BMW International Open made its debut in Cologne in 2012, Englishman Andrew Marshall was the recipient of a BMW 640i Gran Coupé. Two years later, his compatriot James Heath hit a dream shot to win a BMW i8. Scotland’s Richie Ramsay was the third player to leave Gut Lärchenhof in another spectacular car: the BMW M760Li xDrive.

Something tells me... they weren't expecting anyone to win that.
I am by no means a huge golfer (or very good) and have been to at least two tournaments where there was a par 3 hole that had a free car giveaway. No one ever wins. Purely promotional. For the record none of them were BMW's. I was also told that event organizers can/do purchase insurance just in case, someone does make a lucky shot. The insurance company buys you the vehicle, not the tournament organizer. Very cool to see nonetheless! |

I'm sure he afford the taxes with what appears to be a Titleist and Adidas sponsorship. Who knows how much Titleist just paid him for having pictures taken with the hat on. PGA Tour pro's get a bonus each time sponsor logos are displayed on TV/print media.

No mention of the length of the hole, probably at least 180-190 yards for a tour pro hitting a 6 iron.

Aaron Rai is a professional golfer so although not common, on the PGA tour, it happens more than you think. Since BMW is a HUGE sponsor of the PGA tour, the cost of giving away this i8 is peanuts. Last year, Jason Day (one of the best golfers in the world for the non-golfers on here) hit a hole in one and won a M760xi. Unfortunately, since he is sponsored by Lexus, he decided not to keep the car himself. Rather, he sold the car and donated the funds to a scholarship fund. BMW also donated $100,000 to the fund as well. Awesome stuff

Watched the video, he didn't seem too excited. Love how golf channel announcer emphasizes the "0-60 in 4.6 sec". Cool, so its as fast as my wife's full size suv. Wow! Bmw fail!
