Wheels / Tyres = Confusion
Featured on BIMMERPOST.com When i first came across this article i assumed that as all the OEM wheels were 20" when it came time to change my tyres i would be able go for the bigger tyre option on my 20" 444 Turbine wheels but now i'm hearing from my dealer that my 20" wheels can only accommodate the smaller tyres? • Front: 195/50 R20 Potenza S001-I 93W XL • Rear: 215/45 R20 Potenza S001-I 95W XL and not the larger • Front: 215/45 R20 Potenza S001 95W XL • Rear: 245/40 R20 Potenza S001 99W XL Is it the case then that only the 'upgrade' wheels shown in No 1, No 2 & No 4 of this picture are able to accommodate the bigger tyres and not my wheels shown in No.3? My rear tyres have gone after just 4000 miles (despite mainly driving in comfort) and so i'm not over the moon about just replacing like for like, does anyone have any suggestions/experience of other tyres in the UK that would fit my 20" 444 Turbine wheels? I've done a forum search but haven't managed to find a conclusive answer yet. Finally, i know someone selling a used set of the 470 W spoke wheels shown in No. 1 & 2 can anyone tell me for sure that they will be able to accommodate the larger tyre? Or does the 470 W spoke come in different sizes?!? I'd hate to buy them and be stuck with the skinny tyre option again. Thanks Last edited by jonathanthehornet; 04-02-2017 at 02:58 PM.. |

Thats correct, the wheels in pics 1,2 and 4 are wider than the wheels in pic 3 and are designed for 215 fronts, 245 rears. If you're buying a set off someone make sure that they are a pair of fronts and a pair of rears as they are clearly slightly different in width.

My rears were gone in 3-4,000 mi too. I'm going to try the new Michelin 4S tires--the supposed heir apparent to the SS's.

That is not good that tyres only last that long. Is this just the smaller ones or the big ones too. Used to poor wear as the X3 eats tyres, but not that quick. |
