Going from 22 Cylinders to none
Featured on BIMMERPOST.com Last month I sold my 2010 Mercedes Benz V12 S600. Loved the car. An amazing vehicle. A solid Tiger Tank in every way. It had features that some cars do not have in 2017. For instance, most i3 Tech pkg owners are amazed over the souped up cruise control and "no feet" stop & go traffic feature. My 2007 S600 had that (Distronic Plus) 10 years ago. Nothing is as quiet on the road as the S600. But I digress........... Anyway, I sold the S600 last month, and just sold my 2002 GTS ACR Graphite/Silver Dodge Viper. Between the two of them, that's 22 Cylinders of gas guzzling muscle. They both got less than 20 mpg around town. The Viper closer to 15mpg. Last week I leased a Mineral Grey i3 Rex. And................. I LOVE IT! I must be getting old (58), but It is fun to drive. I'm in San Diego and 1 mile from a ChargePoint station at Fashion Valley Mall. I can charge there in 20 minutes and all for FREE! It's crazy. Great $349 per month lease for a $56,395 car. No fuel cost! No Maintenance cost! No repair costs! And I'm helping the environment. My kid's are so proud of me. |

Yes, didn't think about that. Although that little engine does not power the drive train, so it may not count. I don't think I am going to use the extender very much at all.

The only downside is you only get around 85 miles from a full charge. I'm sure you'll be itching for another sports car soon!

Congrats, very interesting post and something I've wondered about: get rid of the expensive DD (currently the X5M) and moving to the i3 to allow me to go get another used 911 for fun. Right now I try to shove the family needs and sporty/powerful features into the same drive and basically compromise on both ends, although the X5M can't really be called a compromise.
I bet I could go this route and still pay less for the 2 than I am with the X5M!

I love my i3 as a daily driver. It's surprisingly big in the back with the seats folded down, with the seats up you can fit 2 full size humans no problem, it's pretty fun to drive and no fuel is really nice too.

Might as well buy a Golf Cart, you should have your drivers license revoked. What a shame.....

You won't use it much but you'll love it when you need it. I had an i3 as a loaner for a week and went about 3 days without bothering to charge the car, the extender kicked in when I needed it and got me home without an inconvenience.

Nothing against the i3, however it is a little depressing to see a fun car like an ACR Viper be let go.
