New BMW designs

So, I am the first to admit I did not like the iX concept, and came around to the exterior design after seeing it in person. That said, I am not a fan of the XM, seen a few in person, and the exterior just isn’t my cup of tea. Saw this article yesterday, what does everyone think? Agree that we will all come around on the designs? https://jalopnik.com/bmw-knows-you-w...ign-1850487137

We have spent a lot of time in the new XM and while the interior is drop dead gorgeous, the exterior still has not grown on me (or the spouse). The front is ok, the rear not great and the side view is like an extra bloated VW Atlas (once you see this, you cannnot unsee it; sorry ).

Oddly, the i4 I liked right away. iX hated, hated until I saw it in person and then I fell in love with it. New 7 Series, including i7...LOVE!

Agree on the XM interior, it is nearly perfect for my needs. I just wish there was a bit more choice on colors, that is it. Exterior is a bridge too far, especially at the price point.

Coming from an M550, I almost went with the i7 instead of the iX, but I knew the i7 M70 was coming out soon and knew I would want that model. That might very well be my next vehicle.

The XM exterior design is purposely "loud". It is meant to get you to react to it. The interior is very nice, the exterior I reserve judgement on because I haven't seen one in person yet. The biggest issue with it is the price.

Yes, I agree that people will come around to the new designs. The dislike is often temporary and exaggerated by journalists/reviewers. In forums like here, you often get a disproportionate amount of negative comments on everything. Considering that this type of negative reaction was also prevalent when they released even the most conservative of updated designs, (e.g. the F30 3 series vs E90), I've learned to ignore most of it and just make up my own mind.

YES. We are almost certain the i7 M70 will be in our garage in the very near future! The M60 i7 is amazing, so we know the M70 will be nirvana!

Was thoroughly disappointed with the i5 since last week's launch! So much so that I began looking at i7 xDrive60s. Given the absence of several features on recent allocations for i7s I decided that I needed to find one with B&W Diamond, M-Sport & Rear Theater screen.

Found ~12 HEA-spec vehicles still unsold from last fall, so I called all 12 dealers asking for ridiculous discounts. Got one to bite 8% off

LOL ... I already do, my bank account just cant afford it

Maybe if I stopped buying cars and bikes, etc

BTW ... awesome deals to be had on BMW Motorrad if anyone is interested. Picked up an R18B last month with $3k dealer discount off MSRP, and another $3k credit from BMW FS on purchase price, with 1st 4 months payments covered by BMWFS (another ~$1300 savings). Got it for a steal, and drives so much better than my Sportster Iron. OTD price atleast $10k less than HD equivalent Street Glide, and a better overall content offering! Oh and BTW ... 0% APR! In this market, lol, yes please

Up until just a few years ago I raced BMW S1000RR’s in the CMRA (southwest regional race club).

Nice! ... started riding too old (37) ... got a few years under my belt on the XL1200 and figured it was time to graduate to something bigger. Not sure me on a sport bike is a great idea, lol

I’m 50. And there are plenty of guys older than me at the track. And I’m talking expert level racing, not track days…

New designs are not my taste, while I do like the facelift of the X5, the XM and i5 are not doing it for me and I still have to decide on the looks of the i7. Anyway I do like the new Audi designs and the fact that they have announced Next Gen CarPlay support will probably make my next purchase an Audi. (One can never be sure until they signed the sales contract)

BMW Singapore invited me for a preview. I'm overseas now. all the electric range from BMW get alot of stick and negative comments over here. I told some of them, its not supposed to look like any ICE car. The concept of EV and ICE car is totally different in propulsion hence the looks must also look totally out of this world different. The non EV adopters haven't got used to it yet, but BMW is ahead in the electric game and paving the way how electric vehicles should look like.
Get use to it buddy.

I had an iX M60, and currently have a Taycan Cross Turismo 4S, very used to it, doesn’t mean they are designing desireable vehicles.

You sold your iX? How did the dealership in Austin handle the glass roof replacement? I still have not done mine yet.

The i5 is a joke with only RWD as standard and the only AWD dual motor version offering a pathetic 250 miles of estimated EPA range. The car still has vestiges of sharing a body with ICE, such as a transmission tunnel, and (likely) a compromised powertrain cooling system like the i4 shared platform.

Except for the iX, all other BMW EVs (i7, i5) are compromised ICE platforms that have an EV drivetrain and battery wedged in. Sigh.

I did, BMW of Austin refused to consider a buy back since there were no logs of the phantom braking, however they also refused to take it on trade. Took a bit of a bath on trade in, got $93k for it from Porsche Austin. Glass was never replaced, and currently trying to get our money back we spent for tinting the roof, since BMW of Austin had the tint place hold off on doing the roof until it was replaced. I am positive we just got a lemon, and would consider an iX again in the future, unless I see concerning issues popping up on here.

Well, at least you’ll get some of the new must-have features on the 2024+ models if you decide to buy another one in the future.

But you won't get the new features or the new head unit for 2025. Or 2026.
