"inability to drive detected"

BIMMERPOST
     Featured on BIMMERPOST.com
I was driving along on the highway this weekend and suddenly lights on the steering/dash flashed and the message "inability to drive detected" was on the screen. I took my foot off the gas and it would brake on its own every few seconds. I pulled over, turned it off and on and it seemed fine after that.

My wife was driving yesterday and had the same issue. Anyone else have this? We have an appt for tomorrow at the dealer, but this is our third time back there and I am getting sick of it. It's been 6 weeks since we bought our iX M60 CPO.

It’s annoying. It happens when you’re on the highway/freeway on either ACC/DA (hands off wheel too long past the flashing yellow), or on DAP and you look way for too long.

Or your steering wheel position or hands are blocking the instrument cluster sensors.

Yes. Please double check and make sure your hands aren’t blocking the eye sensors. You should only see this message if you are using the Assisted Driving modes and your hands are blocking the sensors (or maybe your eyes covered by dark sunglasses, etc)

Just think of it as another wife. She’s always staring, judging, and willing to nag you at any moment.

"Slow down!" "Stop the car!" "Watch out!" "Pay attention!" Yep. (Same applies, BTW, to husband with wife driving - our human condition)
