First positive observation post 03/2023.53 software

It really! annoys me how BMW programmed the i4 and iX (and I'm sure the i7) to come "alive" just by opening the driver or passenger front door.

If I need to get my phone or sunglasses in my car, it's absurd that the radio starts, Climate Control activates and interior ambience lighting engages.

I noticed this morning, that while this still happens if you open the driver or passenger front door, the radio and climate goes off MUCH quicker now when you close the door(s). Progress

If you just push down on the console volume control for 2 seconds everything turns off.
I've learned not to get annoyed with this car turning on when you open the door "feature"

Also if I want to get out of the car to get my mail at the end of my driveway or at the mailbox at work I put it in Neutral and push the Park button so it thinks it's running and doesn't turn off.

We can still out-smart a smart car. Shudder to think what will happen when AI gets smarter and more integrated 🙁.

You don't have to put it in neutral. Just push the P(ark) button.

You are right.
I stand corrected.
To turn the car off I put my foot on the brake then push the start/stop button then a second or 2 later open the door and it shuts down.

If I do it too quickly then I have to push down on the console volume knob for 2 seconds.

If you put the car in Park and then open the driver door....I'm pretty sure the car shuts down, no?

No if I put it in park then open the door even with my foot on the brake it stays on.
I have my car set to Auto Park so I don't have to set Park every time I turn it off.
I have to put my foot on the brake then open the door a second or 2 later for it to turn off.

Try it yourself on your car.

When I put mine in park, the car shuts off once I open the driver door even if I leave my phone (digital key) in the car…. It’s really annoying AF.

Thanks, M60Cruiser, I will try it with the brake pedal still applied…

Yeah the brake pedal must be applied, once your foot is off the brake, car turns off.
Very annoying as sometimes I just literally have to step out for a second.

I guess I will try to go straight from Drive to park without touching my brake pedal. This should be possible if I’m driving in regen mode.

Unless I am reading it wrong, we MUST keep our foot on the brake pedal when putting the iX into P, if we want to open the door and not have the car shut down. No?

Isn't this behavior tied to the "Turn off after opening door" option in the lock/unlock menu?

Turning that off should do what you want, no? Or is my brain tired cause it's Friday.... If I'm right, and you turn it off, you lose the right to be one of the people complaining that the radio doesn't turn off unless you lock the car.

Just to recap.
I don't recall turning anything off in the door menu like turn off after opening the door.
But I'll check that.
If I stop and press the Park button I can open the door and the car does not turn off.
If I put my foot on the brake and push the start/stop button then open the door a second or 2 later the car shuts down.

Confirmed. When I put the car in park and kept my foot on the brake pedal for about five seconds, then open the door, the car did not turn off.

I'm more annoyed by how long it takes between pressing "ON" and flipping to D/B. I instinctively try and do it in one motion but the car hasn't fully woken up and then I have to 'shift' into D/B a second time after things have booted up. This is where I wish BMW would take a queue from Audi (and others) and make the ON button optional so I can just get in, press the brake, and shift into D/B. Or default to turning everything on as soon as I open the driver door. I may go back to the car for something I forgot once in a while but I drive the car just about every day. Yes, this is a minor gripe but I always liked BMW for their ergonomics and there is much opportunity to improve here. At least make the behavior a configurable option.

I tried it 3x. No matter what I do in regards to foot on brake, 5 seconds, 3 seconds, 10 seconds, seat belt on, seat belt off....when I open the drivers door my iX turns off!

You know later that same day I had the opposite effect. Makes no sense, so I’m not going to even try!
