IX owners are going to be pretty unhappy about this…
* Plug n Charge - 03/23 production onwards only * MaxRange Function - 03/23 production onwards only * Idrive 8.5 - 03/23 production onwards only * New assistant functions - ID8.5 only * More efficient charging software - 03/23 production onwards only Full list and details of updates here: https://www.press.bmwgroup.com/globa...or-summer-2023 Essentially it looks like anything built before 03/23 is being excluded from updates.

The thing that bugs me the most us that BMW has misrepresented itself so many times with IX.
Level 3 driving AR in cluster Always up to date through updates Short lived ID8 Remote parking LiDar I’ve had my for a year and it bugs me so I can imagine the frustration for owners taking delivery of cars now that we built before March this year. We were essentially sold lies.

Yeah. Going back and reading all the press about the iNext prototype is a little depressing. So many features and continuous updates they promised back then!!

It's a real shame. BMW has no appreciation for the standard Tesla has set for software/UI updates. They will not gain the market share they could by following the antiquated models of updates (i.e. none). |

Looks like those features are related to having 8.5.
Most looks just like software. Improved navi and route planning coming to all though. Really bad from bmw. They gave us a outdated headunit from start. Chip issues in start of production? At least they could offer a retrofit for updated headunit. |

The car(s) drive great, I've become a huge fan of the looks, it charges plenty fast for anything I need from it, it's got one of the best sound systems I've heard in any car, the driving tech is ages ahead of my previous X5, it's supremely comfortable cruising, it handles as good or better than any BMW I've driven - and I include an M5 in that stable, it's got remarkable range, it costs 1/10 as much to drive than any previous ICE car I've owned, the space and storage are outstanding, and I'm enjoying the hell out of it now.
In addition to which, I'm not interested - at all - in consuming another year of my life updating, recalling, Stop-Sale-ing, tweaking, adjusting, becoming familiar with, getting used to and fixing the mountain of software and hardware glitches, gremlins and goofs certainly and inevitably coming with any future head, software, hardware, vaporware or kitchenware attached to or associated with anything new from Munich. At all. If I want something more, I'll buy a Jetson's flying car in 2026. Or maybe 2030. I am content. Last edited by Paladin1; 05-24-2023 at 07:01 PM.. |

It’s never ending. Mine was built early 2/2023 I’d like to have these updates, but I like the air suspension and IAS more. If they did allow switching the head unit, it would be very appealing for sure

This is the biggest as let down for me. OTA to keep the car “always fresh”as they promised.
But I agree with others that this car is awesome as it stands. No need for 8.5 or Highway Assist hands free etc at this point in time for me. But a better charging curve would be nice but not essential, and manual battery preconditioning for older cars would be great. The 8.5 meh, charge n go meh etc… An SUV, with 300+ miles range, great air suspension, and great materials / build quality, great sound with either HK or B&W, a wonderful cruiser for long road trips… Love it! Just wish BMW wouldn’t over promise and under deliver with potential for “always fresh” guff etc… |

Tesla's ability to "magically update" software has been vastly inflated IMO. A vehicle will always be stuck with the hardware it shipped with: the cameras, radar, LIDAR, US sensors, etc. You can improve on the software to improve the ability of the vehicle to self-drive but the limitation will be the hardware it shipped with. I'm focusing specifically on the level 2 driving because all the other updates are non-essential to me. Playing games and watching Youtube/Netflix on the big display? Whatever.
Tesla stopped including radar in their cars. Phantom braking spiked. They stopped including US sensors to save $144/vehicle. Their camera-only parking is a clear step backward. Plenty of YT videos demonstrating the crappiness. I've read articles that Tesla is exploring hi-res radar. New cameras will have a higher resolution and they may add an additional cam on the front bumper. So where does that leave all the other Teslas that don't have the new hardware? I think you know. |

I think if we were not made to think we would get updates for a few years we all would feel differently. Offer people a path to upgrade. Even if it cost a little and goodwill will be gained BMW.

This would be a fair option.. if you want the extra goodies and are prepared to pay to upgrade the headunit (if that's the only part that needs swapping) then that would make me happy. Make it happen BMW! |

I am most curious about how Max Range will differ from Efficient Mode!
The other changes regarding charging, don't appeal to me and I'm not irked. I find zero issue with charging my iX. iDrive 8.5, to me, does not seem that much better than iDrive 8. I believe both have their pros and cons. I've driven three 7 Series, 3 S-Class and even years of Bentley and Rolls....and I think the iX is one of best and most comfortable cars I have owned. There is always going to be new, improved and "better". We just have to enjoy our cars! |

This is a kick in the nuts for the early adopters. I made the mistake of ass-u-me ‘ing moving from a Tesla to BMW, that BMW would be superior with software updates and basically, the onboard hardware.
My car was in the shop 31 days for battery recall, and another 10 days for 4 other recalls, so it qualifies for lemon law in CA. I have started the process… |

There are so many things about EVs that will obsolete them quickly anyway, I wouldn’t have bought one planning to own it more than a few years. There are going to be battery tech changes, charging improvements, and all sorts of things as they mature in the market. At this point I’m just two years from my next car so it just doesn’t bug me that much.
