I8 driver door squeaks when closing

Hi everyone:

I have a 2016 I8 with 19K miles under warrant but I don't think it has to go in for something like this. The passenger door is quiet, like it is brand new still.

Driver door has developed a minor squeak when closing but is still smooth and no extra resistance to close the door.

Can i use wd-40 or something similar or just take in to BMW and have it repaired by the dealer under warranty?

thanks,

MJ

Wd40 will attract dirt and doesnt last very long for lubrication. For hinges, i believe lithium grease would be what you want

There are some threads on here about that. Bring it to the dealer. They'll replace the door struts. They did it on mine (out of warranty) for free as part of the service. Twice!

Mine has done that for the last couple of years.
Not sure if it's the same thing, mine is kind of a creak, as opposed to a squeak. I always thought it was the hydraulics, or that plastic coil protector around the wires.
A little annoying but just dealt with it instead of having the dealer sit on it for a day and prbly do nothing.

Someone here suggested rotating the sleeve by hand to stop the creaking. It worked for me, saving a trip to the dealer.

Works for me but the dealer swapped them both out at the 3 year service.

I tried this yesterday, in my case it seemed to increase the noise.

Definitely going in now for service.

I may have another issue with the radio, it no longer downloads song and album data after I turned on the AM radio.

Service adviser stated this is a known issue and would be replaced under warranty at 9,000 more miles or January 2021. If I wanted it replaced now I would have to pay for it. He further stated mine is rather quiet compared to others and is within operational tolerance.

So I will wait.

I noticed the door was not opening all the way so I made another appointment at BMW of Delray Beach.

The place is immaculate!

To say they are complying with CDC cleanliness recommendations is an understatement!

the defective strut was replaced under warranty.

Very nice service experience.
