Journalist flips BMW i8 during a test drive

BIMMERPOST

Poor i8...!

A BMW i8 test vehicle has been heavily crashed during a journalistic test drive in Mexico.

The plug-in hybrid sports vehicle was taken by a local journalist for a media test and somehow he lost control while driving it. We don’t have any details regarding the accident, but as you can see from the attached photos the car is flipped over.

WreckedExotics reports this is one of the first production i8s, but shares no information about the driver’s condition after the crash. Given the strength of the machine’s cockpit, chances are he’s fine.

That is actually an impressive accomplishment if you have driven an i8...

Wow, looks like he lost control prior to running up the side of the retaining wall, sheering off the fence and then flipping over. Hope he's o.k. since there isn't any manufacture I'm aware of that makes an airbag deployed directly above one's noggin. On a positive note, it's good to know that the carbon fiber roof remained intact despite being pile-driven into the asphalt.

Prayers for the driver (and for the car). As stated the driver is probably fine, but the car... it's scarred for life.

Poor car. I tell you, the i8 didn't impress me until I actually saw one in person.

WOW.

As an owner I appreciate his hands on test under real life conditions. CF is sturdy!

Kidding aside, as long as nobody was hurt, it's all good!

He was doing something by turning off something

Horrible end....

How do you get out if the doors can't be opened?

Also now at least we know how the bottom of an i8 looks like

snap oversteer coming out corner, bounces into and then up retaining wall ripping the front end under panels, takes a bit of the fence with it before it flips over. Spiral pass.

If you look closely, that girl in the background is smiling. lol.

I hate to say this, but it looks like it was a low speed problem. Probably, the driver was distracted in the cabin, poking buttons or checking his cell and boom he drove up that side wall and flipped.

Hmm, I wonder how this will influence that journalist's review.

Lightly driven i8 test car for sale, low mileage minor scratches on roof (Like New)

In all seriousness hope the driver is okay but poor i8.
