As a supplier or aftermarket provider, you can obtain some of the specs of what the OEM still considers safe. Especially, if the same engine or component is used in another series production vehicle to higher specs. Like that e-motor in the i3.

The American aftermarket industry has been living off this fact for decades. That's how you can easily buy a Chevrolet crate motor with 572 ci (based on a stock 454) that puts out 1000 hp. All warranties are off at that point, of course. ;-)
I've had two GMC dually trucks with that 454 cid engine (to pull horse trailers). They generated barely 260 HP and something pathetic like 300 lb ft of torque. I know there's been a lot of progress since then, though. And those engines were seriously understressed.

I've little knowledge of coding, but those look like some extensive mods.

Really look forward to rolling road and actual on road performance data

Does "speed limit" mean the car is no longer capped at 250 km/h? How does that affect the e motor (which continuously supports the ICE at that speed, according to my energy consumption readings)? I saw somehwere here on this forum that at 250, it's already at its safe rpm limits.

yes, we have done 11 cars now with this tune and they have reported no issues (so far.)
we also are close to Germany and 3 of those customers are German, they drive their cars hard.

That's reassuring. But I'd still like to know if removing the speed limit actually does rev the e motor higher, and by how much. We don't know yet how fast an electric motor may fail of its spun too fast too many times.

I assume (I am an engineer as well) there is a free-run function on that e-engine... can't imagine bmw engineers not putting a safety

Forgive me, but that doesn't sound very reassuring. How fast does the i8 go without the limiter?

I have called with one of the owners and he did a 278km/u push a couple of days ago and the car was still pulling. It didn't break.

Don't mean to be a pain in the butt, but things don't always break instantly. Spinning it too high too often could just result in creeping bearing damage, or in cables overheating from excessive power draw, ... whatever. What do we actually know about the RPMs of the e motor?

Pull and read your own DME then send your file in for remap and write it back yourself.

Assuming the power numbers before and after are from all 4 wheels, what was the HVB charge level for each pull? How does the increased power effect the torque split and drivability? Explain what you mean by "patched" the electric motor module aka EDME.

Wait - there's an exhaust mod on this, too? So, the performance gain is not just from chip tuning?
