Underbody Shields Driver/Passenger Sides

Hello All:
[2015 i8 w/46,000 miles]
Was driving on the interstate last month going 75mph. An empty, open auto trailer (18-wheeler) pulled out suddenly into my lane to pass another truck. I heard an unusual road noise that I thought was a result of wind passing through the auto trailer. When the driver pulled back into the slow lane, the noise did not stop. We took the first exit and I discovered that the driver's side glass fiber underbody panel was gone, and the passenger-side underbody panel was held on only by the three bolts in the back and was scraping the pavement making the noise.

I have ordered the missing panel and bolts to replace both panels but was wondering, has this ever happened to any other i8 owners?

Thanks for reading,
Frank from Florida

Any car undercarriage is vulnerable to debris on the road. My under panels had holes punched in them when a mechanic was not careful about position of the lift arms when raising the car off the ground.

Orange Fever - fantastic! Thanks for the photos. I need to order and install the same drivers side guard for our i8. Could you tell us how to purchase it?

truck tire tread debris

I-35 is a minefield of road debris. Hit a retread this weekend, which slightly cracked the front air dam. Any good recommendations for CF replacement? Probably stick with stock, but worth considering.
