This is such a loss. Such a great performer and story teller. I've seen him 7-8 times and he never let me down. He will be missed. RIP.

So sad. Been a Petty fan for 30 years... He played a great show at the JazzFest here in New Orleans back in April. Sooo glad I got to see him one more time.

I'm no doctor, but based on what I've read I'm guessing he went into cardiac arrest and was starved of oxygen for quite some time before EMTs arrived, causing him to be brain dead. I suspect the family will take him off of life support in due time, if they haven't already.

Perhaps it's the Las Vegas shooting, but I'm beginning to stand corrected, because I cannot find a follow-up to confirm if he is still on life support still, or not. Most of the news coverage obviously remains on the shooting. Hard to say for sure.

Ahh, no worries. Last that I've seen in the media is that he is basically brain dead, been taken off life support but has not actually passed away yet. One story said they don't expect him to make it through the night but who knows the source on that comment...

I can guarantee you Tom seeming to be the gentle soul that he was, had to have been touched by the Vegas tragedy. I imagine he will be heading to heaven shortly to greet those lost last night and will be putting on the best show ever for them.
