I view that line as a cop out, often used to evade personal responsibility for lousy decisions gone wrong.

Agree 100%. It's a blanket statement that gets used for everything.

As a Project Coordinator, at no point has any of my superiors asked why I did something that I've done, and my response been "Men devise many plans, but only God's plan stands", "Trust in my work with all your heart and question me not" or "You don't understand what I'm doing, but someday you will." Yeah, this would not work out at all.

.
I don't buy that "God has a plan" bullshit whatsoever. You hurt a child, you are despicable. End of story. This goes for Gods as well. I'm sure a lot of people will disagree with me as well, but I cannot get over someone (or something) having the 'power' to create worlds, but cannot protect children..... WTF.

This is why I couldn't be a cop. Anything to do with children and I become over emotional. I saw the video of the 6 yr old girl who was rescued from being kidnapped in Kentucky last week. Watching the full police video camera footage had me choked up. I would have beat that man to oblivion for traumatizing that little girl, like he did. Momma bear mode would have activated. Amygdala hijacked..

Driving home tonight in New Orleans I see a woman get out of a new Nissan Altima (didn't have a license plate it was that new) and change places with a man who was panhandling on Earhart Blvd. She took the sign he was holding that read "I AM NOT FAKING. I REALLY NEED HELP", covers her face, and sits on the plastic crate in the median

Thou shall not judge, but sweetheart.....you need help paying for that new car or something?

If you're going to scam people, make it a little less obvious!

Don't take offense, it's actually kind of a nice way to reply.....

Actually the “you're welcome/no problem" issue is simply a linguistics misunderstanding. Older ppl tend to say “you're welcome," younger ppl tend to say “no problem." This is because for older people the act of helping or assisting someone is seen as a task that is not expected of them, but is them doing extra, so it's them saying, “I accept your thanks because I know I deserve it."

“No problem," however, is used because younger people feel not only that helping or assisting someone is a given and expected but also that it should be stressed that you're need for help was no burden to them (even if it was).

"No worries" is even more nonsensical

I like the way the Brits do it.."cheers". Makes me feel like they're raising a glass to me for my contribution

Seen too much of this and stopped giving to folks asking for money years ago. I give generously to Salvation Army, homeless shelters etc...

I see similar tricks around these parts as well. I imagine this behavior occurs across most of the nation.

Yeah, giving to reputable charities is the way to go. Having said that, I did spot a fellow the other day who was being honest:

Cardboard sign: "Why lie, I need a beer."

That's about the closest I ever came to giving a panhandler some money.

That actually makes sense. Hm. Looking for better ways of communicating "no problem" without saying no problem.

There is a group around me that gets dropped off in a 16 passenger van, 1-2 people at random intersections. Someone followed them and posted the dash cam video on a local FB group. They all live in a very decent condo. Maybe they dont all live there but meet to divide up their takings for the day, who knows.... #TrustNoOne

The primary ingredient in Spam is chopped pork shoulder meat mixed with ham. About 90% of Spam is pork from a pig's shoulders. The remaining 10% (or so) comes from the pig's buttock and thigh, better known as ham.

We had a panhandler sitting at the end of a busy exit ramp near where I work for several years. At the end of his begging day, the dude walked across the street to a small shopping center, got into a Mercedes, and drove off to the north (all affluent neighborhoods).

My philanthropy only goes to vetted organizations.....

Thanks for this, none of the young people including my own kids has ever explained it to me as well. I won't be getting my grunders in a twist anymore when the reply to "thank you" is "no problem". Thank you 👍🏼

The generational thing is obvious here as well, us old guys don't look at "you're welcome" as going above and beyond, it just means "I'm glad to do it (my job). I think I'll rethink "you're welcome" to young people and find something better

How about "no worries?" I know it's originally an Australian English expression but we use here in the US a lot now.
