charge failed - checked codes - WOW!!!

Sorry, this will be a long one!

So I have my 8 month old i3s on a smart type 2 charger wallbox (Easee for those wondering) BMW supplied type 2 cable. Car has done 4200km/2600mi
I usually change at night so I have both car and charger set "active" 1am-6am. Never had an issue. But two days ago I woke up to an error and the car had not charged.
Unplugged and plugged-in, and got the car charging, everything normal.

Went for my 220km trip with no issues, except for the fact that I kept "losing" about 40-50km range for each stop/start.
First leg saw me start at 295km and arrive at the ferry with 270km range, which dropped to 220km when I drove off the ferry??? Did drop slow though.
Ultimately got to my destination, 105km from home and had used 31% of the battery, not bad, range said 186km remaining.
On the way home (same 105km) my adaptive cruise control malfunctioned, I guess it was the low sun, have had this issue in the past.
Used another 31% to get home, so 210km on 62% and 110km remaining range when I got home, theoretically, I could have driven 320km on a charge, not bad, better than advertised, so who knows.

Anyways.
I plugged my Carly in the car and decided to read out codes, boy was I in for a surprise, 8 month old car, did not expect to see much, other than maybe the charge issue might have thrown a code.
My jaw dropped when the count stopped at 30!!! codes.

Most seemed to be related to communication faults between modules and typical "computer faults".
But it appears I have a DAB L-band antenna wiring fault and a short circuit in plus right speaker (B7F805)

400031 - electronic pressure control valve 4, short to ground - seems to be transmission related.

222832 - charging error - blaming my cable.
222842 - charging error
222834 - charging error - seems to be that a display message was shown.
805532 - seems related to the charging cable lock.

Think I might take the car in to BMW for a checkup.

I know the Carly is not 100% reliable, but I did not expect this result, my 2014 M5 threw 7 codes the first time I checked.

Has anyone else experienced the car not charging, would the be random or indication of something that will only become worse?

Better have it checked, that is far from normal. Mine hasn’t had any issue pop up in over 3 years.

Garage List
2015 BMW i8  [10.00]
1970 Porsche 914-6  [0.00]
2018 BMW i3s REx  [0.00]
What is the “Hydrogen Fuel Tank” fault? I didn’t know that the i3 had a Hydrogen fuel tank. Are you sure your testing the right car? Unless your i3 is a REx using a hydrogen fuel cell I’m wondering about the “ Hybird Electronics “ faults too. No REx … not a hybrid, no fuel cell … no hydrogen fuel tank either. What am I missing?
Is there some sort of electric sunroof on your car? The “Roof Control Panel “ fault seems odd also.
My guess is you should just clear the faults and keep driving and maybe get a different code reader.

Hydrogen Fuel Tank code?
A/C code?
Probably only 3 of those codes with the charging/door are valid… as far as the weird travel legs, that raises an eyebrow. It all sounds computer pid loop related like something's disconnected. Like the car needs a hard reset, something.

I charge with the standard BMW occasional use charger, and free at the grocery for level2.
Sure hope you get it sorted out. Sounds nightmarish, I'm looking at my 2017 like. GuLP

First of all, the car shows no signs of anything being wrong, hence my surprise to all the codes.

I'll try to explain, as I also found some of those faults strange, but most are probably just to ignore. I have also experience with Carly on another BMW where it consistently threw a fault code for hands free microphone B, which was not installed on the car, so I don't fully trust Carly.
They may also sort the faults into categories that seem strange.

Hydrogen fuel cell:
That is code 805532 - Charging connection22282A: Locking the charging plug, state implausible.

Hybrid Electronics:11 codes
3 of them is the 222832,222842,222834 related to the charging failure.
4 is related to communication issues between modules.
4 seems to be just logged events.
22282A - Check Control: for higher gear, step on brake
22280B - Hv power management: abschaltaufforderer cat 4
22282E - Heck control: prevent the vehicle from rolling away
E89400 - VSM event vehicle state

Roof control: I dont have a moon/sunroof.
801A0E - Nvm e integrity failed
801A57 - Car alarm - activation IRS ans tilt sensor per customer function
801A20 - Can e timeout

Air Conditioning:
07802B - Comm e net start channel 0
078022 - message (vehicle condition 0x3a0) is missing
078043 - Linif e response

car access systems:
400031 - Electronic pressure control valve 4 short circuit to ground
80402C - error f15 driver
8040BC - ibs wakeup - reveille implausible

Instrument cluster:
E12C3C - DME interface, DDE (Status consumption fuel engine, 0x2c4): signal invalid
E12C2F - Hu interface (acknowledgement requirement combination, 0x172) signal faulty
E12c30: Hu interface (status service call telex, 0x30f) signal faulty
B7F669 - combination: info error 1

Infotainment:
B7F805 - connection head unit for DAB L-band antenna foot: line break / short circuit to plus right speaker
101712 - Pia function reports its configuration information even though it was not prompted
E1C601 - Ethernet: crc error

By the looks of this, my charge failure may be due to the cable not being properly locked, as per the "Hydrogen fuel cell" code, maybe there was a slight tug on the cable that caused it.

I appear to have a DAB radio antenna fault, possibly a speaker fault.....
And there appears to be some communication issues on the various busses, but that might have been just a single event that thew a code.

As stated, the car has shown absolutely no isses in use, only thing is the cruise control that is not very happy with low sun or heavy rain.
I have seen this in the past, and only during really bad rain or with a setting sun in my face, once the situation clears, it works again.

The cruise control function is (unfortunately) normal behavior.

This sounds like Carly not being able to deal with an i3s, something jabbering on one or more data bus, or perhaps the 12V aux battery taking an uber-early dump.....

You think that's a lot try driving a 40e x5 hybrid !

I'll get over 120 shadow faults.

These are faults that show up over the weeks and months and are logged but won't throw a hard code.

Now if you wipe the codes and start fresh and it pops up again you may have an issue.

Some cars are good about it and others aren't.

Even the dealer will disregard all the errors when a car first shows up and wipe it and they will see what shows up again to find a real issue.

I have used my Carly on my previous F11 M550d, my Ex's f11 520d, my F10 M5, my neighbors two X5's and a couple of friends cars.
Normally it will pick up 5-15 issues, being actual codes or registered information.
seems many of these are firmly logged with odometer distance registered etc. seems I have a few around 1000km, and a few now around 4000km.

Charged the car again last night and all fine, I think I'll keep an eye out, but at the moment I really cant say I notice any faults when the car is used.
