Flash drive storage capacity
What's the max capacity of your thumb drive for the little compartment usb socket?
I tried a little samsung 1 TB SSD drive. It worked fine for about a month, but now a bunch of folders suddenly don't show up. I added a few new folders with mp3's and mp4's, but the entire folders are not showing either. I figure 1 TB is maybe too big? It's formatted NTFS. Just bought a little SanDisk Ultra 512GB thumb drive to try. My 256GB worked without any problems, hoping the same for the 512. |

Yup, I was surprised to see that as well.
I hope it works though. From suggestions on another forum, I renamed my 1TB drive, and it seems to be working again...for now. |

The logic is simple. BMW creates an index of the files once scanned. This is never refreshed. You can remove the device, etc. If you add / change anything after the index was created this will not show up and worst case confuse the software (indexed files removed, etc.).
The solution or workaround (however you look at it) is to change the volume name once you make a change. My library sync script e.g. automatically sets the volume name to something that includes date and time. Never had an issue. |

Not the size per se but the filesystem used, number of files, etc. I use a 512 GB USB stick (actually a thumbnail size card reader with a 512 GB microSD card) with about 30.000 files (FLACs and MP3s, self ripped from the family CD collection over many months) just fine.

thumb drive/exFAT (Mac)
Getting the car ready now that the snow is gone.
Back to the USB issue. I've introduced Macbook in my house, so now I'm formatting my thumb drives exFAT for compatibility. It seems that the i8 doesn't like exFAT? It's only 128 GB, 2 folders and maybe a dozen mp3's in each folder. The folders don't even show up, and just a few selected tracks show up. Anyone else tried exFAT? Any good solutions to keeping Mac compatability and working in the i8? |
