XPEL Wrap on i8

Full XPEL wrap everywhere including rocker bottoms.

The entry sill area has been wrapped in matte finish XPEL and carbon fiber finish wrap.

I'll ask my guy. It looks stunning in person. Even matches the factory CF lines

I did XPEL wrap on mine as well. Wouldn't leave home without it. But I must say, I'm not feeling the traditional hand-laid look carbon fiber wrap bumping up against the injection mold carbon of the i8's tub, but that's a taste thing. To each his own. It's probably more about me being an engineer and knowing it's fake/isn't there to reduce weight (I didn't order the under hood engine bay carbon fiber on the SLS because it added panels where there are none as standard, so you're just adding weight, the antithesis of using carbon fiber in the first place). It's always been form follows function to me. I'm a big proponent of the "if you like it that's all that matters" attitude.

On a related note, is there a XPEL pattern for the i8 now? There wasn't when I took delivery so the guy did a custom job (which looks better than an patterned car I've seen), took him two days to do the front half alone.

Yeah there are full kits for the i8 now on xpels sight. This what I'm going to when the car arrives in 1-2 weeks

Issue wasn't real vs fake. It was to protect the sill from scratches. It wasn't a pattern. My guy did the whole thing custom from a roll of XPEL. Took him roughly 12 hours to do the whole car. Guy's an artist. I would never attempt it!

What's the sill made of with Tera World? It's a textured aluminum on the PI World.

Maybe when mine gets all scratched up, I can replace it with the aluminum pieces.

Yeah, it seems odd that the area that will probably see the most wear and tear doesn't get the most robust protection standard.

My guy used the new pre-cut kit to do the front end, full hood, fenders and mirrors and I was quite pleased with the results... can't see any seams or edges right now but we will have to wait and see how it looks over time.

He then did the entire car in C-Quartz Finest high gloss including the parts that were wrapped and did the sills and frozen gray trim in C-Quartz matte. I've never used C-Quartz before but I'm impressed so far with the gloss and slickness it imparts to the paint and it's hydrophobic properties cause water to literally fall off the car. The other day I inadvertently parked near a construction site after having just washed the car and when I got back a few hours later the car was covered in a thick layer of dust...by the time I got home the dust was completely gone...apparently nothing sticks to this stuff.

How much is a full body wrap? I'm thinking of doing the xpel ultimate in matte. I'm getting a protonic blue. so matte on the blue parts & gloss on the black parts.
If not, just the hood in clear & doing either the CQ or the 22PLE which sound amazing.

Also, any recommendations for someone in LA?

This seems to be the guy. http://www.yelp.com/biz/unique-auto-films-tarzana PM me when you get it done. I may bring in my car to have it done, too but I'd like to see how yours comes out first.

(Question to others: Does the wrap have to be done when the car is new? If so, how "new"?)

Awesome. I did the very same thing on my car. Every panel that is exposed from nose to tail, top to bottom and the sills are protected. In northeast this is key. I did this on my other cars too. XPEL Ultimate is the product to use for sure.
