All Possible Equipment Activated on the i8

All,

I have been chatting about a bit of coding for the i8...the usual upgrades: Folding mirrors, video-in-motion, tire temps, etc. Can everyone, especially our OUS brethren chime in on all options that are active on their cars? I'd like to get a sense for what is realistically available.

Additionally, can everyone place a simple meets expectations (ME) or dosen't meet expectations (DME) next to their offerings.
Thanks-mk

P.S. I know that there is a coding discussion: http://bmwi.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh...ight=i8+coding

I 'd like to develop a comprehensive list which is uncluttered with editorial content regarding the general value of coding.

Windows close and rear views turn in from key fob - Excellent

Tire temps with tire pressure - Works well but probably gimmicky

AM Radio - Horrendous

Wider, longer bright lights - I can't see anything different

Window roll-up and folding mirrors: mine came from the factory like that

Tire temps: not sure I need it; what I'm wondering, though, is why TPS needs recalibration and isn't a reading of absolute pressure value, like on other cars

AM radio: I'll never understand the American fixation with that band; sound quality is awful by definition, and all you get is talk, talk, talk (and usually not very intelligent or insightful)

Changing range of high beams: that would be a violation of safety rules over here and can earn you a ticket and / or an issue during inspection. High beams are supposed to be set a certain way to avoid blinding other drivers.

The mod that I want is an interior mood lighting that adjusts to the selected driving mode.

More specifically: I think it would be cool if the i8 mood lighting, which can be manually set to white, blue or orange, would automatically be white in comfort mode, blue in eco pro, and orange in sports - matching the color change of the instrument cluster.

+100 I just asked my coder about this today and he said it can not be done, can anyone confirm?

Hypothetically, if you can change the mood lighting manually while driving, and there is a way to detect driving mode shifts, it should be possible. It's just a matter of automating legitimate user behavior.

You have more color choices than just white, blue, or orange.

7-10 Groups (OFF + 6-9 Sets)
  • Dome (Near SOS Button): 1 Choice (Off, White, Orange)
  • Dash, Door, Floor: 3 Choices Each (Pink / Light Red / Bright Red / Orange / Yellow / Light Green / Bright Green / Turquoise / Ivory Dynamic Blue / Light Blue / Ice Blue / Purple / Violet / White)
There are driving mode funktions with ambient lighting but I have not tested to see if they can be sync as desired.

It depends on which changes you want to make. The IDrive Names and images are static. Coding just modifies various colors for 6 groups.

Pretty cool that you can mix and match the 3 different layers, too.

Here are some crappy iPhone pics. The sensor doesn't pick up the colors very well, especially red and yellow.

The blue is just a different "blue". I believe it's the Light Blue. The Ice Blue seems a bit duller, like a matte blue. The second one is actually Yellow. The third is Red (I believe the Bright Red version). The others are pretty obvious I think

Remote coding is also an option.

EDIT: It is also easy enough to code yourself. Both options are available.

I'm fairly ok in regards to being a DIY'er and tech things, not too sure how I'd do at coding but Id be willing to give it a try. Can you point me in the right direction on where I can start learning or a coding 101 for the i8?
