Why is it a ripoff, if the dealership clearly itemized the $100,000 as a "market adjustment"? And a prospective buyer not only agreed to that adjustment, but then proceeded to whip out their checkbook and sign for the whole amount? That's called a negotiation. We do it in business a lot.

If you're about to piss yourself to buy an i8, and have been blessed with so much money that paying a cool $100,000 is easier than have you waiting a few months ... more power to them both. I call this a win-win.

Congrats to the owner.

Oh all the cars I could get for 250k. And all the things I could do with that 100k difference. But as others have said I am sure this guy is not hurting after this purchase and to be in that position well that's the biggest win.

With that kind of money, I would buy a ferrari, but he probably already has some.

This car is def not for everybody.
For double the MSRP it can't even keep up with an M4 for one lap, and then it loses battery assist and becomes even slower. Its got sports car looks while not even being able to keep up with a 5,000 pound Mercedes sedan on track. It is an exercise in what is possible with carbon fiber construction , but thats where its merits end. 250k is laughable, as it in no way is worth even the 150k it sells for based on its performance as a sports car. Paying a 100k market adjustment is a waste of money and something no one who earned their fortune working hard would likely ever do. I know I wouldn't.

Funny, as soon as he drives that i8 off the dealership lot, the price (*used) probably goes down as much as $10k. Basically gave out free $10k cash to the dealership. (what market adjustment?)

Guys it only sold for 194K...not what is shown here. Still way overpriced IMHO.

Wow...such greed. I would have bought a GT3 and an M3 with money to spare for tires, pads, high octane gas, and Pobst as my personal driving instructor for a day.

Falafel Combo...you are right in theory that this a negotiation and the owner has every right to drastically overpay for the vehicle, which becomes mortal when the electric component shuts down.

Business and value don't always go hand in hand...this is a severe case of such an event.

Somehow, though, the transaction leaves me unsettled.

I know this isn't quite the same thing, but are you forgetting the approximately $900K someone paid (the proceeds going to charity) when they auctioned off an i8 last year? I know dealerships are individual companies in the USA, but I personally don't believe dealer markups really help their bottom line long-term...it really hurts customer relations overall, and that affects repeat and referral business which they depend on for sustained income.

"Unfortunately", Irvine is in an area where they can afford to completely dismiss repeat business and referrals.

The car was sold for $50k over MSRP, not $100k.

That is the addendum that was originally posted on the car. The confusion came because a SOLD SIGN was ADDED but the ADDENDUM was NOT REMOVED.

It's amazing how quickly this spread with 0% fact checking from the OP. It was put on VW Vortex originally and linked around online.

The guy who bought it is the most popular pop star in Mexico. Don't feel too bad for his pocket book guys!

I'm going to guess that they probably already have 2 458's, and probably a crapload of other supercars if they are willing to pay a $100k markup for something that gets demolished by a Tesla S.

Here's a picture of a ridiculous markup someone found from bimmerfest. If it helps, I was able to get my order in for MSRP.

I'm wondering whether Bmw are thinking their prices to the dealer was too low.
