It's in Irvine, California. Not Irving. But ya still agree!

Then he can buy a fully loaded 911 TTS or R8 or GT3 if he doesn't have all three already

It just doesn't make any sense. The customer could have bought an M5 together with the i8, for the price of that i8 alone. Or give the $100k to poor people.

I understand your point - but this is capitalism and the law of economics. The higher the demand (with low supply,) the higher the price.

"People who have the money, get the goods."

I am not American or from the USA, but from my experience, various discussions with US counter parts and US born family members, that's what the US economy is mostly all about.

Congrats to the buyer on getting what they want and living the dream!

Well, as has been pointed out repeatedly, it turned out to be a $50,000 price bump. But how can you say the buyer could have bought both an i8 and something else? The point was, the buyer couldn't find what he wanted without a long wait, if at all.

Why do people buy cars from dealerships like these?

This is just one more good reason to do a PDC delivery:

1. Order the car from ANY dealer in the country
2. Order it EXACTLY the way you want it
3. Fly over to the PDC (in SC) to pick it up
4. BMW pays for your hotel and meals (no additional cost to you)
5. BMW give you a free half day of instruction and track time at the PDC (in the very same model car you are taking delivery on)
6. Have a nice drive back home and bank the mileage for your break-in

Of course, ordering a car requires a little more patience then simply driving over to a dealer and taking whatever they have on the lot...

I thought I had read somewhere that this car's allocation slots are sold out for the next two years, so if you didn't get your order in fast... Good luck! Curious if this is still the case...?

Anyway, this is status quo for Irvine, that's one reason I don't like them. My last car was a 328 vert. Bought it in 2008 when the hard top verts was new for Bmw. Irvine wanted 15k over (for a 328!!!) and laughed and told me that someone will buy it when I told them that was ridiculous. Bought it for under msrp a few days later from elsewhere.

Is the i8 available for PDC or are you just speculating? And if your dealer is sold out, how would that get you an i8? Sorry, but I just don't understand.

If "information not accurate" were the criterion for a thread surviving, we wouldn't have many. This is perhaps the funniest post I have read on the Internet for the last 12 months.

+1
When i was shopping around for my f15 X5, Irvine BMW said no dealer will ever sell it under MSRP..what a bunch of crooks. I have a custom built one for 1K over invoice.

Avoid this dealer especially their internet manager with the name "Paul Bailey" if i remembered correctly.

I got mine for MSRP, dunno about any of the other guys here. I'm sure I could have haggled a dollar off to prove this guy wrong.

Delivery

I asked about i8 PDC or European delivery. Neither was available.
A buyer still has to order via a dealer and if all dealer allocations are taken, no PDC, or any other shortcut, is available on these cars. As far as the car being sold out, I've found that this actually refers to sales to dealers. Not every 2014-2015 car has a final, retail buyer, but it's close. My dealer has sold two off the floor.
Finally, as a soon-to-be i8 owner, I'm glad the cars are commanding high prices, if for no other reason than near term higher residual value. If a buyer decides to pay a dealers mark up, so be it. Nobody ever seems to cry when a dealer is forced to sell below msrp, for whatever reason.
I've had a few occasions where I found an ADM sticker on a car I was interested in. I simply wave my hand and tell the salesman that's BS and I won't be paying any of that. If they hold firm, I walk, but I can't tell you how often the great and wondrous ADM disappears when they find a qualified, cash buyer standing in their dealership. I suppose they often believe it won't hurt to try, even though it does turn us buyers off for future business.

Someone needs to get their head out of their ass. 50k over is just stupid let alone 100k. Not for an i8.

Just about everyone has paid over MSRP for their precious i8. In fact, the new Ford GT and the NSX will also command premiums over MSRP. When the 458 came out, same thing happened. I guess you don't think the i8 is special but apparently there are gazillions who would disagree. It sure seems like it's not others that have their head in their ass.

$100k may seem like a lot, but I am damn near certain that Weatherford BMW had their floor model with a MUCH larger market adjustment resulting in the car being about $320,000 or so.

Weatherford BMW has 1 2014 Pure Impulse World i8 listed on its website. The price shown is list. But who knows what surprises will greet the caller or visitor to Weatherford's showroom.
