more white house guessing games

so much for transparency in Government?

A guessing game: Who visited White House in administration's early days?

By Bill Dedman

Under the new White House policy, names of visitors during the first eight months of the administration are not being released wholesale. Those visitors will be revealed only if a member of the public requests specific names to be checked against the visitor logs.

Obama did run a campaign that was full of "sounds good in theory" promises:
No lobbyists
Transparent Government
Close Gitmo!
Out of Iraq!
And a whole host of others.

The problem is, he was inaugurated and then had to deal with reality. And that "reality" is clearly at serious odds with Obama's "theory."

This is still a far more open policy than that of the Bush administration, which spent years in court trying to keep the visitor logs secret.

^ It shouldn't have been a big secret before and it shouldn't be a big secret now. IMO, claiming this is some big improvement is nothing more than cheering for your home team. It's essentially gone from a "very, very bad" policy to a "very bad" policy.

They should just release the logs from the last 100 years and force all future logs to remain public. Politicians on both sides will bitch and moan about it but they work for us - they've simply forgotten that fact.

I agree, and did not mean to come across as an Obama cheerleader (though I would call it simply a "bad" policy).

sayemthree just seems to be blind to the issues with the past administration, and in this case Obama has improved over Bush. Not as much as I would like, but it has improved.

I am not blind that Bush failed us at all. but thats history. Move on. what we are stuck with is no better and probably worse because Obama is smarter than Bush and is a better public idol.
