Seems to be a fantastic car that will be improved/perfected with software updates...
According to Driving.ca, the car returned a fuel economy figure of 46.4 mpg during their spirited test drive, very impressive! More reviews here: Australia's Car Guide: http://www.carsguide.com.au/news-and...83338_20140428

Check out this positive and realistic review. http://www.autoexpress.co.uk/bmw/i8/...i8-2014-review
The autocar guy is silly one. He thinks every car should be a P1. |

Another review but not very good. Just a regurgitation of the press release. I don't think they drove the car.

Clarification: At one time, BMW didn't provide cup-holders in their cars (as was common in many German makes), and foreign reviewers frequently complained about this fact.

"Note: The equipment described refers to the specification for the German market." At least that gives us some hope that what we've heard about the U.S. cars being fully equipped may still be true. |

LOL. Well, it takes a village, and it's fun to share nuggets of information with other enthusiasts. Frankly, I think we could do a better job of launching the i8 than BMW is doing (which may be exactly what they intended).

And one more that seems to be an original article by Motoramic, even though it's on Yahoo Autos:

What, a half-second throttle lag?? If it's anything like you experience in the i3 at low speed then that alone is a dealbreaker. |

Many of the reviews expressed concern over a throttle delay in 2nd gear corners when acceleration is needed due to software deciding how/where to put the power down. One other review also mentioned that if one wheel goes off the ground, the car will halt power to stop free spin to prevent damage to the systems. I believe that only refers to the front axle, but am not sure entirely. The press release didn't talk about this function. In both cases, it was stated that BMW is still tweaking all of this software and will continue to do so even after deliveries begin. For the early adopters, these quirks will be something to live with and workaround, as BMW continues to improve the software that controls the i8 drivetrain. In other words, I don't think it's an insurmountable issue that should be a deal breaker. |

Another review from The Auto Channel, with video containing lots of i8s at the media launch...
All of the info is starting to look the same to me after these last few days, so I apologize if some other site has this same exact review and it's been posted already; however the video has footage I haven't seen yet. (Edit: I realized I posted another The Auto Channel review earlier, this is actually more of an article than a drive review, but it's interesting with talks about the original concept and designers to the current stage of the i8. Due to Bimmerpost censoring the website for some reason, you have to cut and paste the below link to a browser and remove spaces in the website name.) http://www. the auto channel .com/ne...ike-dream.html Last edited by ddk632; 04-29-2014 at 09:28 AM.. |
