I think you are right about what leather means to US consumers. I've sat in several M cars in Europe with partial-cloth seats--haven't seen one in the US yet.

I, too, had the ///M cloth/leather in my 05 Comp.Pkg M3 (...IR leather in my 03).......and I loved it. Cloth is my #1 option for the E92.

As our exchange rate gets worse, I shudder to think of the cloth/$60k+ base price....

Definitely affects resell value.... On a top of the line 3 series, it is a sin not to make leather standard. I understand a no-cost cloth option....

Still imagine the number of farts cloth seats absorb over 4 years??? Leather for this cat.

The ///M leather/cloth has always been the no-cost standard seating surface (...it was more like a mesh material, and only covered the center-most portions of the seat; leather wrapped the upper/lower bolsters, headrest, etc.). Leather was, and has been, the option.

It didn't in my case. People said the same thing about PY/IR, but it just so happened that the car received more praise than distaste.

And FYI....leather absorbs odor too; just as much, if not more than, cloth.

Like the sunroof, this is the option that seperates the 2 different kinds of M3 buyers. I swapped my E36 M3's leather interior for M cloth/alcantara, and my E46 has cloth/alcantara interior as well. There's a reason why racing seats are not wrapped in leather. For daily use, cloth/alcantara are warmer in the winter and cooler in the summer, and would look new all the time. I can't think of a single reason to order leather. Resale value? I don't care about it enough for it to change my preference.
