11/2023.30

Just got my 11/2023.30 done at the dealership. All free and took all of 3.5 hours . No release notes available and myBmw app still shows the old version 07/2023.67.
Only driven it home earlier on, i didn't notice anything different in this short time. If anything, hoping my Stuttering Spotify app playback would be resolved. On this 30 mins drive, fingers crossed, it stayed true. One other iX owner keeping tab on what he thinks was a noticeable improvement on energy usage efficiency.
Anyone on this release yet and have access to the release notes. I'm on idrive 8.0.

The app will update the shown version within about 24 hrs, at least mine did. If you didn’t have it before you should have a manual battery preconditioning button.

The only problem I see with this version is my car has been very hesitant too unlock after the update. It now takes few seconds and some clicking and other sounds to unlock most of the time.

Did you happen to notice if "exclude home" showed up as an option under the lock/unlock comfort settings.

I'm on 07/2023.67 and was expecting iDrive 8.5 to include that, but it's not there.

I wish I had an ‘exclude home’ option in my iDrive 8.0.

I’ve got the November build and no, sadly it’s not there. Right now only i7 has it enabled I believe.

The app stays the same ie not updated to reflect the latest version. I notice the app will show only those being pushed via OTA but mine was dealership installed directly. Not too sure thats the reason for the app not to reflect the 11/2023.30. Precondition is there now. Not much use for me in tropical climate.

Too bad not available to us 8.0. That would be useful.

It took a bit but my app eventually synced to show the right version of vehicle software.

Try rebooting the I drive to address stuttering Spotify. Had that happen after 0723 and now keep having to reboot every so often because the CarPlay doesn’t link properly, google volume is low or app icons missing. Reboot fixes u til next time.

What does iDrive 8.5 look like with Android Auto? Any changes compared with version 8? The one I drove at the dealer had 8 without 8.5 available to test.

Not sure if you are talking about the Android OS that powers iDrive 8.5, or do you mean the Android Auto that comes from your phone?

For Android Auto from your phone, it would look exactly the same since Android Auto takes over the entire screen regardless of your iDrive version. Even if you have iDrive 7, Android Auto would look identical on your BMW screen, because all of the graphics come from inside your phone. The way Android Auto/CarPlay works is that the BMW is just a dummy screen that accepts the graphics and audio from your phone.

If you are talking about the Android OS that powers iDrive 8.5, you wouldn't be able to tell anything from looking at the screen. BMW has completely customized the user interface "skin" to look like the typical iDrive 8.x, so the Android OS "guts" are not visible to the end user.

I thought Android Automotive was only used in iDrive 9?

I think you are correct, sorry, I misremembered. It's going to start in iDrive 9. But if you've seen videos of iDrive 9, it looks pretty much identical to iDrive 8.5 (you'd never know it was a different system OS underneath the hood).

Yep, Android Automotive implementations don't tend to look anything like Android. As you say iDrive 9 is very much like iDrive 8/8.5 but touch only and missing a few features at this stage. I would expect iDrive 9 based on AA to be the future of infotainment in all BMWs over time.

Porsche also recently unveiled the Macan EV, that is using a new version of PCM based on AA also, but it looks just like the previous QNX based version of PCM, it just runs much better on newer hardware and allows for app downloads.
