I8 Tuning in the UK?
Has anyone had their i8 tuned in the UK.
I would be interested to hear your experience. I am aware of Yorkshire DPF, Celtic, Evolve. But I would like to know more from owners own experience. |

I looked into it a while back when i had my 2015 coupe. After doing a bit of research i got in touch with Maany from Evolve.
If i had decided to go down the tuning route, i would have gone ahead with him. The reason is simple: a/ you do not tune the electric motor. b/ you solely tune the petrol engine. c/ the petrol engine is identical to one found in a mini. d/ Mini engines have been tuned for years with little known problems. e/ Evolve is the best in tuning mini engines. The reason why i did not take the plunge in the end was that the car was under manufacturer's warranty and i intended to keep it that way. Also i asked myself if i really wanted the car to be faster. I came to the conclusion that for me, the car was actually more than fast enough. I have now swapped my coupe for a roadster and the conclusion is the same: fast enough for me. |

Many thanks for the feedback Ericsi.
It makes sense. The car is certainly fast enough. One thing thats on the mind is that the 3 cylinder mini engine is already being pushed to over 200bhp. Thats a 1.5 litres. So would pushing it more be the straw which broke the camels back. |

I understand that the mini engine is very resilient and can take a lot of abuse, tuning etc. |

I am interested in how tunes change algorithms for power curve for both electric and ICU. Stock is set up with a lot of 'smooth' built in. "Sport' mode benefits from a bit more snap IMO, enhancing both feel and objective acceleration times.
But I'm in USA, so apologies for tangent. Further tangent: does Brexit affect the ease of getting tunes from Germany?

It's a good question stressdoc. I was led to believe that the car is tuned for the engine and motor to work together. By changing just one parameter such as the engine power, is it going to ruin the power deliver.
This hybrid set up is now complex than just having an engine delivering the power. Hence looking to hear from owners of tunied i8. Ps brexit hasn't had any impact on getting parts that I am aware of. |
