My 2019 BMW i3S 120Ah build thread - Black Alcantara headliner
Picked up my red rocket in the end of june this summer. Already before I ordered the car, I had many plans for retrofits I would like to do. I have already done many of them as you can see below. Hope you enjoy it!
Arrived the dealer in Norway From the delivery day. Started with detailing/coating of the car and mounted floating center caps and spacers. Then it was time to get trunk extender, and the choice felt on Wokeby. "M3" replica mirrors done. This is not only one single cover that you often finds in some cheap versions, but 6 piece mirrors. One thing I hate about the i3 was the lack of black headliner, so I decided to make it by myself. After spending some time in ETK, I found almost all parts I needed for the project. The foot on the "M3" mirror was black high gloss, so I had to paint the frame and front fender as well. I missed the "aerodynamic pedals" from my old E60, so I decided to try this set on the i3 too. It was plug and play! Unfortunately BMW went away from auto dim mirror at the passenger side in 2017(?), so this car only had auto dim in the rear mirror and at the drivers side. I bought mirror from an 2014 i3 - voila!

LOVE THIS! I too have been wanting to do the headliner. Could you post the part numbers for what exists and then what parts don't. I'm guessing you had to spray at least a few pieces black.
What was your total cost for the headliner swap? |

For the passenger rearview mirror, was it just swapping the glass? Did anything need to be programmed or added?
I'm waiting for delivery for 2019 S, after seeing this thread I'm seriously thinking I should buy instead of leasing it so I could do these mods. Was this the part number of your pedal set? 35-00-0-410-100 What was the part number of the center caps? Are those genuine BMW or aftermarket? Last edited by TimeFor; 11-11-2019 at 06:14 PM.. |

Auto dim mirrors communicate on LIN-bus, so if you only swap the glass, then you have to make an Y-connection and a new plug inside the mirror and wire it to the mirror glass. The easiest way is to go for a complete mirror with glass from 2014/2015/2016 i3, then its just plug and play since the LIN is going to the glass on these MYs. You have to go for the manual-version, so the part number ends on 099 instead of 100. You have to go for the manual version because 1) the brake pedal are the same size as manual pedals and 2) the accelerator for i3 does not have kick-down (the manual does not have kick-down).

How was painting the visor? That was the mirror part or the hinge? What type of paint did you use and is it holding up? You painted the upholstery or did you die it? Would love to see more photos of the process.

I like a brighter interior in the i3, but the black actually looks very very good!

Yes, it will not be possible to do the rear doors. Maybe it will be possible to do the trunk, I will see.
