New Mustang GT500 Coming

Seen alot of chatter about this one being a twin turbo V8 and possibly making 800HP. If they do go twins, Im curious to see which V8 they go with.

The coyote motor makes good reliable power with a turbo thrown on them. Wouldn't be surprised to see them go FI with that motor.

Somewhat surprised at estimated TT V-8, 800 hp, at $65k, when the Ford GT has a 3.5 TT V-6, 600 hp and $400k. I realize they are different cars but it seems like the "ultimate" Ford should come with the top HP engine they can currently produce.

Dodge made the Hell Cat with more power than the Viper

The 2014 GT500 aldready had mor than 600hp.
I think they will go for 700 hp, 800 hp seems a bit over the top. Given the Mustang is lighter than the Hellcat this should be enough to beat it.

Viper already existed they weren't willing to spend any money on it and it was headed to the grave. Also, Viper had a NA V-10 and Hell Cat a supercharged V-8, I see some benefit to the Viper here, compared a TT V8 to a TT V6

Ford's marketing department has asked for the GT500 to have more than 707 hp. I bet they get it.

Rumor/speculation that SRT did look at FI for the Viper. I bet the bean counters killed that off.

You can put all the HP you want under the hood, it won't matter much if you can't translate that into traction. Ask any Hellcat owner, they'll tell you all about that.

A lot of people fail the realize the new Ford GT is a homologation special. The car only exist for public consumption because of meeting class homologation regs. They are not building the car for street bragging rights. Ford chose the proven race winning ecoboost for a reason, the ecoboost already had major 24hr wins under it's belt in other series. Endurance racing is not about having the biggest engine in the class.

That doesn't prove anything. There is nothing to prove. You don't build a car from scratch and then all of sudden realize a V8 doesn't fit. They never had any plans to run a V8, they built the car knowing from day 1 they were using the ecoboost. Which is why that article references the future of endurance racing, which is small displacement turbo engines. Ford already had a 24hr Daytona race winning ecoboost engine on their hands, prior to even starting this project.

The new Ford GT was not built as a road car, there is a road car because of homologation regulations. It was built to go racing. Hence, why they already won Le Mans with a car that isn't even on the street yet.

It is a homologation special. Look it up, it is now being called a "cheater car".

They could get a the 302 to fit? I find that hard to believe. I'm going to be very disappointed if the new Ford GT isn't as good as the 04-06 Ford GT. Which I would rather have.

But with the GT500, they have to beat the 707 from the Hellcat, though I bet its not going to be 800HP. Probably something stupid like 797. Horsepower wars....though now its only Dodge and Ford since Chevrolet is giving the 2017 ZL1 650HP. Which is priced at $62k by the way.
