The opening scene in the house with the corpses in the walls.
Stuck in traffic jam and every car was suspect.
Kate wanted to fuck , but it went seriously wrong .
In the big house with the boss from the bad guys , I never thought he would kill also the wife and the kids on the dinner table .

The music was kinda enervating on my 5.1 sound system from Bowers&Wilkins but pushed the suspense level even higher .
Conclusion..
Good movie , never boring and the story was always realistic and never over done .
Personal verdict ****/5
GREAT REVIEW and Spot On! Interesting comment about the "soundtrack". In fact, I recently read that the composer is nominated for an Oscar for the soundtrack for this film. It was perfect. The percussion sequence which was played at the throughout and during the end credits was amazing! Had my HT system rumbling! That scene at the dinner table when he smoked the kids and wife was EPIC! The boss was so fokin stunned that he was speechless.... Benecio is such a badass.

Del Toro was pretty bad ass in the movie. Emily Blunt wasn't needed in the movie. All she did was get in the way, whine, cry, and annoy. Sort of like Off-Topic. Pretty good movie overall.

Blame that on the writers! She herself is a great actress. I would've preferred they made her character more of the "badass" they claimed she was! It would have added instead of detracted from the storyline.

Would have been better if the ending was more morbid.

Like I wanna see the rounds decimate skulls and the grasping of air when shot center mass.

Her character was a necessary counter to Alejandro.

The flaw in the movie was where she told Matt that she was basically going to rat them out. Dumb move for a character smart enough to be the lead on a Fed special weapons team.

I watched it this past weekend. I liked it even more when it was over and I was having to explain why the ending was exactly what it should've been to my GF.

I agree that Emily Blunt was good for the part and her character needed in this movie and did\was exactly what they wanted her to do\be. She's supposed to be the whiny detractor amongst the group of "get it done" badasses. The movie was drawing a contrast, once you get that, you realize why she was good for the part and the character was necessary. The whole point of the movie was that they needed a Federal Agency for cover, she and her partner were chosen for the gig, and they didn't quite lay down like the SAD guys wanted\expected them to. What pissed me off about her and her partner's characters was how naive and ignorant they both were. I mean, you're head of a task force yourself and you work for the FBI and you are dumbfounded at first and secondarily shocked that, in the war on drugs, there's CIA shenanigans afoot? Really? Do either of you bozos watch CNN or have heard of the INTERNET?

I totally knew Benecio's character would kill the wife and kids. Knew it right when that scene started. I understood his character's motivation was and what his capabilities were from the get go. The only part I didn't like was the monochrome "night vision" scene with them in the tunnel. Felt more like watching someone play COD than a movie, but it didn't take up enough time to really piss me off. I am excited for the sequel (it's, apparently, in the works) that's going to follow him and shape his character.

I thought the movie was pretty bad a$$! Different side of Emily Blunt as I'm use to seeing her in comedies like "she's outta your league"

I want to know EXACTLY what Benecio did to the brother once they brought his chunky ass back to the states and he got Medieval on that ass....
Whatever it was, he gave up the truth!
He carried that 5 gallon jug ow water so one can easily assume water-boarding. But I have a feeling it was much more sinister.

I liked that scene without seeing the waterboarding shit.

Alejandro walking into the room like he's out for a stroll, except he's carrying a fucking jug of water. This is so damn intimidating...that the director just lets your imagination go wild, which is better than the shock value which can be so JV.

Heard that the director purposely edited the film without music so that he wouldn't use music as a crutch to create tension. Tension was created by what was not happening as much as what was happening. White space as it were. The tension building in the freeway scene and the big boss scene were good examples of this. Music was laid on after the fact and amplified the tension already there.

I thought this film was superb. For me, Emily Blunt's character seemed more like a means for the audience to vicariously experience the unfolding horror of what was happening around her.

Although the subject matter was grim, this was really a lot of fun to watch. 5/5 for me. Can't believe I missed this thread. I was a huge fan of this movie.
